Hi,
I just had the car serviced and now the alarm isn't working. It is the standard honda alarm that comes stock from the factory. Now usually when i lock the doors with the remote, the red led on top of the steering column lights up, now it doesn't light up anymore (the led itself is fully operational).
Whats the go?

fuse? does it need to be reset? Id talk to the place you got it serviced at, but you need to refuse to pay money for their mistake.

if there is an LED on your steering column its not OEM even if its a honda remote. is the LED solid? (as in not flashing). its prolly in valet mode do you know where the valet switch is?

try this...open the drivers door an hit lock, unlock, lock (or unlock, lock, unlock i cant remember) in succession (one right after the other) and see if that helps.

The place i got it serviced at reckons they didn't touch it and that it didn't work before they serviced the car. Bit of a coincidence. :noway:

The alarm is definately oem seeing as my family have owned it from new and hasn't been changed.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the valet mode/switch?

Back when the alarm worked: if i locked the car with the remote, the led would flash, and if i attempted to unlock it with the key, the siren would sound (very loudly).

The led doesn't flash anymore after locking it with the remote. And if i attempt to unlock it with the key there is no siren. Its like as though the whole system has been 'disabled'.

Thanks for your time.

well, thats the point of "valet mode". it allows the alarm to be shut down temporarily while the vehicle is being serviced (haha...serviced. nevermind). a valet switch is not a switch per se but a black plunger (momentary type) switch used for valet mode and programming some features (again...depends on alarm).

usually when an alarm is installed, the valet switch is hidden somewhere only the owner and installer know about since it can disable an alarm. 99% of the time its still on the drivers side somewhere though. on hondas i used to hide it behind the hood latch or in the fuse panel somewhere.

valet switch is here:http://www.drdetailshop.com/8631.htm

note...you will only be able to see the black plunger part and it is most likely surface-mounted somewhere.

even though they may have bought the car with that alarm, im almost 100% certain its not OEM. if it has an LED on the steering column, that screams aftermarket to me. only thing i can suggest is to pull the under dash panel (or you may even be able to look up towards the wiring above the pedals) and see if you can see a black box anywhere that looks like someone put it there. where are you located? i can look at it if youre close.

Hey all, my appologies for not updating the thread.
Yeh one morning a couple of days ago the thing started working again. The led flashes, and while the car is locked by the remote; if i open the boot with the key the alarm will siren. However, if i open the doors with the key (and the alarm is engaged) then it doesn't siren. :S
Bad wire connection somewhere?

sounds like a door trigger being loose. Door trigger should be green/red in the driver kick and the wire from the alarm will prob be green.
