I'd been delaying this for a while, I finely had an afternoon to just dedicate to removing that C-clip. Once I figured out the trick to jimmying the case open while prying apart that clip it was cake!

I was sold this Ex tranny and an Si tranny; the Ex was explained to have an exploded fork (right on the money). The Si has a hole in the case, and supposedly good internals. So once the Si tranny is cracked, I'll have a better idea of what I'm working with.

Besides the obvious fork needing to be replaced, one the shafts and gears caught a shard of that fork and torn off 1 or 2 teeth on the end of the shaft. Sorry that I don't have the technical names down yet of each part, but I'll be working on it!

Here's the shaft with the torn off teeth; sorry about no pic of the damage, but I found it right before I had to pack it up. It's right under the gear on top here...

So I think I got shafted! This isn't the Si or B000 tranny I was told... What do I actually have then? and am I missing something, or are their parts of the shifter forks missing too? Just very different from each other.

D@mn it! I knew I shouldn't just take someones word on it without checking first...even if they are members on here!

Well, in this case... is there any way to use the "good" fork from the Dx in the Ex?

i dont think 96-00 trans have anything that can swap to a 92-95 trans. i could be wrong. but iirc one has steel forks (96+) and other aluminum.

btw: this freaked me out, so i had to go look at the "short gear" trans i just picked up. *sign* it is a s20 b000, but gl to you. i looked before just could not remember for the life of me what was on the casing.

^LOL, never hurts to double check! I wonder if the entire s40 fork assembly can be used in the s20? Anyone?

nope.

$40 parts tranny from what I'm seeing.

I'll be honest and humble.......only one person I know could make a working tranny out of those two........and it is me.

NOT worth the time.

But if your paying, I'll work all night!

^LOL, thx for the humility there! Think I'll just get a new fork, and is there any way one the one Dx shafts can be used to replace the torn up on in the Ex?

shifter forks are the same between DX and EX, as long as you stay in the same generation (92-95 for example)

Just swap the whole shifter fork assembly...

VX/CX trannys are good for this :)

^Do have what I believe to be the original VX tranny running the car now... But without another extra tranny in there, I'd be car-less.

Have any shifter fork assemblies available Transzex or Bense?

I've got one spare assembly, about to use it tonight on a Z6 rebuild.

I always have a spare assembly :)

^That's cool man! I'm not sure why my profile won't update with my location in the status...but I'm in Greenville, along with Duck, and a few others you mighta hear of. Don't get to Columbia very often, but do you get out my way much?

iirc shift forks in the 92-95 are aluminum and steel in the 96-00

so they usually bend in the 92-95's and break (like yours) in the 96-00

did i get that right?

Nope, the Ex '92-'95 broke off... and I'm not sure about the Dx, cuz I opened it up and the whole assembly moved smoothly-all the gears moved back and forth fine. But I did find two smaller than RACE bearings in there. So I have to do more research.
