View Full Version : What is this hole for?

I want to tap/thread the hole in the photos below to use for a custom engine mount attachment point. It looks just like other parts of the block that accept a 10mm bolt but I thought I'd ask some questions/opinions before tapping it...
1. Did anything ever bolt up to it?
2. Am I in danger of hitting any coolant passages or the likes?
3. (related to 2.) could I fit a 12mm bolt?

uh and why are you installing a "mount" that doesnt need to be there in the first place?
what are you trying th achieve with this mount or what problems are you encountering that is making you decide to put a new mount there? :p

lol, well unfortunately Hasport don't sell a mount kit to sick a D16 into a 1976 civic ;)
I would consider re-using the original front mount attachment points, but I'll be using those points when I move the alternator to the front of the block (for chassis clearance reasons).

Hey, keep me posted as to how your swap goes, a buddy of mine and I are planning to drop a d15b1 into a 79 cvcc, so I'm interested in your progress

Thanks for all the kind words guys :)
burnoutboy - I'm sure you're not the only person who thought that. Since posting my original question however, I've decided to go another route for the front mounts.
mrfunktastic - I am going to boost it! As for having lots of room - HA! The D has 10-12mm clearance on the front, rear and both sides and I need to have a custom intake manifold made up because the stock one would protrude about an inch into the cabin. My local road laws are pretty strict so the D and L series (L being out of a Fit) were really my only choices.
When I have another update I'll post a build thread and link to it from here. Progress is slow at the moment because I'm searching for some very specific inserts for the rear mount I'll be getting made up.
