How do I get rid of wheel hop? I have Dunlop SP Sport A2 tires, H-rated, and they hop like crazy. My old tires would just spin, couldn't get traction...but now they hop before they grip so my hole shot is crappy. I don't really know what causes it and why its only on the new tires. Also, its worse in rain. What's going on down there?

What is your suspension setup and have you taken a look at the jimfab traction bars? I believe that you can get them through www.exospeed.com and www.jimfab.com

its a 1996 civic sedan ex, i just want the hoppage to go away, its so annoying and embarassing

If you are near stock or have bolt-ons, wheel hop shouldn't be a very big deal. First thing that I would do is crawl up under the car and make sure that you don't have any bent suspension arms or anything. Also, you never told us what your suspension setup was. Cut springs? Bad shocks? ebay coilovers? etc?

The car just has the stock setup for 1996 sedan. I had the shocks and alignment tested and it measured ok. What causes the hopping?

sorry, but I gotta ask this. Can a bad motor mount cause wheel hopping? they're 7 years old and i suppose they may need inspection.

Bad motor mounts can contribute to wheel hop, but it's mostly a cause of your lower control arms flexing and your tires being stickier than stock. Your front LCAs flex forward and back, hopping your wheels around... crappy tires will just spin.
You can reduce wheel hop with a traction bar kit and/or some poly bushings. I've got both, along a new set of shocks, and it really puts an end to it. I rarely hop anything now- I just launch.

I used to get that when I had it stock.. Just try to launch more gentle on the clutch and gas and keep it steady until you get moving.. It's just a matter of practice and knowing how your car is going to react!!

I still get it... But i find its just on how your driving and realsing the clutch... Theres a point where it will just spin, a point where it will hop, and a point where it will take off nice... Just a matter of finding it.

Yeah, my car spun like crazy on the stock tires... but when I added the yokohama a520's they stuck nicely...but hopped like a bitch. Now I have Yokohama AVS ES100's with a stock suspension setup. However, H&R Race springs just came in the mail....and I'm waiting on the shocks and camber kits. So hopefully it'll help with making some of it go away.
Being as how your car is seven years old, I think you are probably due to change the radius rod bushings. Energy Suspension sells them as well as Mugen. This probably won't get rid of it totally, but should tame it some.

thing is i "heard" its bad for the street. but i honestly think it should be a big deal on the street. there are some good traction bars there.

Maybe some wheelspin wouldn't be too bad in your case. I'm assuming you are running at a drag strip where there's plenty of sticky rubber at the line already is causing the hopping issues. Come off the line a tad more aggressively and spin them for 10 feet of so... It'll help build revs quicker as it ensures you don't bog.
At least that's what we do in the world of Solo2 (autocrossing to you uninformed!) at the big events like ProSolo's.

Try and see if someone makes a replacement mounts that are polyurethane, and defiantely use energy suspension radius rod set they are cheap, easy to put on and make a whole lot of diffrence.
If you still have a problem make sure you run the recommended air pressure in the tires, maxing them out doesnt always make for good ride control.

Is this guy still even on the forum? I'd replace the lower control arm bushings way before buying traction bars. sloppy or worn bushings will contribute to hop, plain and simple. you don't have to go with poly bushings, even the oem bushings would be good.
