if you haven't taken the engine through the carb process then yeah its not a legal motor. try other shops though, somebody won't notice

it's $21 for inspection in NY, but we don't have to go through smog or emissions with obd1. It's more of a visual thing...

if im not mistaken i thought someone on here posted up that in cali the sohc zc and d15b jdm motors were approved to be oem replacement motors as long as everything emissions wise is in tact...

sniffer yes but not the rollers.

When they smogged my car in santa barbara (2005), they just tossed a sniffer in the tail pipe, and used a bar to hold the pedal to 2500, no rollers. *shrug* is it new?

C'mon, its probably allowed on a technicality that he's too lazy to look up. Call a few shops, just tell them what you got and ask them if it'll be a problem. When one of them says it isn't, go to them.

i passed mine with a zc motor never seen state ref. with ebay header ,and intake, and aftermarket exhaust. emmisions passed ,but like you said the visual had to be overlooked for 180.00. only way you don't have to dyno is if you have full time awd. the zc is a legal swap ,because it is has a usdm equivalent which is the z6 you just have to have the four wire o2 sensor, and obd1 ecu converswion harnesses, are illegal mods also. ,and all the sensors ,and emmissions equipment of the z6 have to be in place. i have a book sitting here that says so, but you first have to take it to the state ref. sso he can make sure there are no illegal mods on it. so it has to be stock to the standard of the model year of the engine your putting in.

Ny is sweeeet. They check for cel and inspect for brakes and crap. Then you get your tag. Pre 1995 cars dont have to be checked if im correct but i could be wrong.

have it forged. i told them that i couldnt/ wasnt going to waste my time having the guy sign this again for my crx . they said they couldnt do it with out. i told them ill just walk out side and sign it, and come back in an hour and you will never know the difference..
. she said let me get my manager. she looked on the back and he had really signed it on the back. just not the front. she said well ok thats fine. but next time make sure. he signs both

Damn, that really sucks ass. I am so glad I dont live down there. I live in 1 of 2 counties here in Cali that dont require smog checks and inspections. You have to pass once when you buy the car, thats it. If I had to pass emissions, I would be so beyond fucked. 3 of my 4 cars wouldnt pass in any way.
