I'm considering this as my possible setup on my 97 EX:

Akmee cam/valvetrain package
Weapon R header
Custom ram air intake
Air Mass or Custom exhaust with Top Fuel muffler
Apexi Power Neo or VAFCII
Nology plugs
MSD wires (Nology hot wires if within budget)
High Flow Cat (maybe)

I'm hoping for around 130-135 hp. I think I should be close to my goal with that setup. I'd like input from everyone both possitive and negative. I'll be starting on this project pending the sale of my JRSC and a few other parts.

that sounds like a reasonable goal with those mods...do you mind me asking what your budget is?

Could I run this setup untuned? I know my power would be off. But would it be safe to?

arent you going to be using the apex'i unit for your tuning? just do a rough tune until you get some dyno time; shouldnt hurt a thing.

exactly...i am going to be running the same set-up, kind of..built head, i/h/e, plugs, wires, but i may do nitrous...i'm gonna use the vafc or neo to tune mine- just get it on a dyno to get the most out of it

Should be good, and would look good to.

My budget is around 1200-1300 as long as i get bout what i want out of the parts i have. I asked about running untuned in case i don't get as much out of my stuff and can't afford the afc. Guess if I don't I'll wait awhile longer until I can get one. The intake is gonna be free since my brother is welding it for me and I already have a pipe and filter now. Gonna search ebay to try and find stuff at a better price, and hopefully my friends and I will be able to install all the parts so i won't have to pay for labor. Only thing i'll hopefully have to pay for is the parts, dyno time, and tuning. Oh about how much does dyno time and tuning usually cost? I've never done it before so i don't know.

convert to 0bd1 and run a basemap until you can get it tuned. Second go cai with k and N filter, and next get an ebay header to save money. If you have 5speed for life chip your ecu he can put on a basemap so you dont need to tune immediately but when on the dyno it would be smart.

I tought about geting an ebay header. I might go that route if I have to. I want to keep the car emmisions legal since it is also my DD, so converting to OBD1 isn't an option since we still have emmisions checks here. Also a cai is a 50/50 thing up here in Utah since we get alot of snow in the winter. That's why I'm going with the custom ram air. Should be just as good as a cai, but the pipe is still under hood so safer bet for me.
