Ceramic vs. Stainless headers....

Are they pretty much interchangeabe? What exactly is the difference besides the obvious (one is stainless and one is ceramic)?

um, that's it. that's the difference. the ceramic helps keep the engine bay cool.

Im assuming the ceramic headers are just plated mild steel, and the stainless headers are uncoated?
Why do companies sell stainless headers for more $$$ when they are not as efficient as ceramic coated ones?

We'll from what i heard from people with dc headers, ceramics tend to crack. Maybe thats why theyre cheaper.

The ceramic headers are made of mild steel and the ceramic coating is really there to prevent rusting.

Stainless steel is much more durable, will handle the heat better and will not rust. Stainless steel is also more expensive than mild steel.

You know sometimes peoples strange fasination with shiny headers, can backfire on them horribly...I was at a local car meet and we were all racing about, i had pulled in after racing a b16 and my sweet little d16 had been kicked to death and was red hot. The b16 owner was having a look at my engine and as we were talking, some guy came up complimented my gleaming dc 421 header and....grabbed on to it :shock: oh my god it smelt like frying pork, he shrieked in pain, i was like wtf are you doing, i then had to take the poor guy to hospital as he'd left a nice chunk of chared skin on my header (which has since ruined its apperance :x ). let that be a warning to you!

I'd be kinda pissed off if he screwed up my header -- even if he was in the hospital. I mean, they aren't cheap.

Yeah it took me ages to clean off the burnt on skin, i left it at first(cause it looked so gross) but then every time the car was sitting i could smell a horrible smell that made me sick. I cleaned it all off and the header is cool now, the dudes hand is not he has a nasty scar on his palm as the skin kind of ripped off when he pulled his hand away. But hey thats scottish people for you thick as pig shit.
