depends on what kind of mods you are doing... if all motor then you won't need it since the stock ignition system is good enough... put that money into somthing else... you'll only need it if you are going to boost

I've heard that the stock Honda ignition has been used in some pretty built up cars. I don't believe that you would see much gain from it.

i used to have msd on my ls/vtec setup and i didn't feel any difference... it was a high compression set as well... the only useful thing was that i could set my rev limit and also use the step program

I've heard the same. The only time I could see a use for an aftermarket would be on a car that is FI or has been built for high compression (I'm mean high as in 11.5+). For a daily driver that is moderately built then it might be a safeguard because you won't necessarily be replacing ignition companent as frequently as a race only car. The availability of some extra voltage would come in handy when times like the plugs wear down or when you get a little build up on the cap and rotor.

Using an aftermarket on a basic bolt on motor might help idle the engine better and help out when starting the engine.

From what I think I know -
The extra voltage that some of the igntion units are rated at doesn't happen every time the igntion fires. There is a measurable electrical resistance that is found in all the metal and stuff that the spark must travel from the coil and the spark plug. The spark plug itself has an gap that adds even more resistance. The more more resistance there is then the more amps the ignition is required to handle to create a spark in that gap on the spark plug. A low compression cylinder will have less air/fule mix compressed in it. This is less dense and less resistance will be found between the gap of the spark plug. More compression will be more dense and more resistance will be found in that gap. It will demand more from the ignition to make a spark jump that gap. On a bad ignition system the spark won't be able to jump that gap right when it needs to. It might be a weak spark of no spark at all. Honda ignition is pretty good. Cars boosting <10 psi are very commonly running the stock ignition.

Well what about for nitrous like he is asking? Is the stock ignition powerful enough to handle a 55 shot?

im concerned with the detonatin.. I don't want to be starving for spark..

maybe i shoud start with what i got & what im trying to do.. I have ad16a6 with about 226,000 miles.. I tore it down and put str piston & JE rings, new barings, oil pump,ect... Centerfource Sage 1 Clutch... Stock specs no over bore .. stock internals in head ( put did replace some valves , retaners, and seals) No cam. or cam gear. Cold air,421 header, greedy ful cat. B&m pre. reg.. and some other small mods.... No a/c... Yep in MS ... And i mean none, not even the evap. core.. Im runing 15.762 1/4 now With full int. & 1/2 tank of gas. But im trying to get 15.5 befor the nitrous.......

Stock ignition, NGK wires, and NGK plugs.

you would need colder plugs to run nitrous right??

depends on the setup and amount of spray.

Need to get away from the projected tip plugs first.

I'VE GOT A MSD SET UP AND I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. NO REAL HP PICK-UP, BUT IT DOES SEEM TO HAVE BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE. NOW FOR THE CONS... IT RAISES YOUR ENGINE COOLANT TEMP SIGNIFICANTLY. PLUS, I DON'T THINK YOU CAN CONVERT BACK IF NEEDED. SO HAVING SAID ALL THAT, SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSE-WHERE. I WOULD HAVE
