A friend of mine that was installing a new cat and 02 sensor on my car told me not to do it. He said only about 1 to 2 out of every 5 actually work. He said the motors blow because the head or something starves for oil. I dont know too much about this b/c I am kind of learning as I go but if you guys could help me any info or advice would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks Aaron.
You're friends thinking about the LS/vtec swap, not a mini-me.

Egot He said the ls vtec was easier to do and more reliable. I guess he just wants to convince me to swap to dohc.

what a shame
stick with it man
I dunno, your friend must be pro b/c from what i've seen LS/vtec is a bitch if you dont do it right the first time. Research, ask others that have done a mini-me and i think you'll find reliable and pretty easy to do. Unless you'd really prefer ls/vtec and have a few thousand to spend on the swap, then i'd stick with the mini-me.

no shit!?! Damn maybe he dosent have a clue about what he is talking about.
As far as being a pro he is a bad ass mechanic and engine builder. Nobody has ever complained about his work. He works for one of the import shops here in Houston.
The only way you could starve the head from oil when doing a mini-me would be if you swapped a z6/y7/y8 head on a a6/b7/b2/b8/ block and forgot to remove the oil control jet in the top of the blocks deck.
Maybe there is another way but I cant think of one.

Your friend needs to stop insulting stuff he obviously knows little about. I beat on my Z6/A6 mini-me all day with the occassional 55 shot.

I've been running b7/z6 mini-me for more than half a year now and it sees the redline here and there and it didn't blow yet, works good

I have about 20,000 miles on my y7/y8 mini-me and it sees the redline pretty much every day. The engine hasn't been rebuilt and it has 144,000 miles on it.
