Ok this will have nothing to do with sound sytems in general, but the concept is the same.
I bought a 96 DX that has been stripped of everything including the sound deadining pads. So what I am looking to do now is find a good spray in sound deadener to use over all the bare metal inside.
I would just go with the dynamat, but I would rather have a good full coverage that stays the same shap as the metal so I can go back later and re install new carpet and trim panels.
So if you have some suggestions on products to use or anything lmk
Thanks
Ricky

you can reinstall new carpet with dynamat or similar products......its pretty thin and molds pretty good to the bare metal and shapes....you usually use spray deadener for hard to get to spaces, at least thats my opinion

^^ agreed. If Dynamat is to expensive, there are off brands for less $$. I'd stick w/ 3M spray for the hard to reach areas.

You can use roofing material its basically the same stuff as dynamat and you get a huge roll for way cheaper.

Dynamat has a tendency to melt/ooze in warmer climates. A company called Cascade makes something similar that does not do that and is 5% lighter and 5% more efficient.. Check that company out if you like. Hushmat is also another good quality product as well

I was guessing spray liner myself. I can pick up a kit to do it yourself for around 90.00 . I just wanted opinions before I went and spent the cash ola.
Thanks guys.

and in the summer heat, the off gasing will be so nasty your windows will "stick" and not roll down.........
Plus it will stink to high heaven!
read up on the RAAMMat, Rich is a good guy, one of the OG car stereo guys, he also helped me with Scion tranny info.

i had an s10 back in he day that used to be set up for spl. it had vblock sprayed throughout the whole interior and then dynomat laid out over that. you have to let the vblock air out for a while because it smells horrible too while drying. my s10 was like driving a benz. crazy quiet.

You should check up "Brown Bread". Yes that is the name of the product. It is very similar to Dynamat, but cheaper and comes in different lengths of rolls.
Anyway I dumped about 2 chunks of I think 60-70 ft of Brown Bread into my Civic, and now there is less vibrations from the road, and feels much more quiet.
The only thing that bugs me is wind noise, coming through the rear hatch window...That is a hard one to fix....

Anyone here used felt also? I'm sure Dynamat and the like will keep things from rattling, but I've never really understood how it's suppose to stop sound waves.

it keeps sound waves from bouncing directly off a flat surface. when that happens, sound waves can interfere with each other and create distructive interference. the smoother a surface is, the worse the effect. thats why most of the luxury vehicles dont have a lot of hard plastic in them and if they do they are usually dimpled in some way.

between mats and sprays/liquids the only diff. is your preference for application.
i prefer the mat over the liquid stuff just because of the option to easily remove if you ever needed too.
edead is the most inexpensive mat out there. and quite effective too.
