im looking to do a clutch upgrade and possibly flywheel since ill be in there anyways. on the exedy clutch description, it said its possibly to use 90-91 clutch kit on an 88-89 civic for higher increase in clamping force but the 90-91 flywheel is needed. is this true? will the 90-91 clutch and flywheel directly bolt up the 88-89 1.6 engine? thanks for any help clearing this up.

well which year is it? '88 or '89? there is a BIG difference...
to fit a '90+ clutch on your '89, all you need is a 90+ flywheel.
'88 uses a 21 spline input shaft, '89+ use a 20. you can use a '90+ flywheel plus an older Lude clutch kit to match the 212mm flywheel
'88 - 190mm flywheel, 21 spline input shaft
'89 - 200mm flywheel, 20 spline input shaft
'90+ - 212mm flywheel, 20 spline input shaft
