Car thefts and break-ins are rising in my area. So, I was wondering if there was a DIY on putting a separate battery for a car alarm. Would this be a good thing to do or is there another alternative?

battery backup siren. If any wire is cut or disconnected the siren will go off. If mounted right there is no way to get to the bastard.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a Viper 791xv. Is there a battery backup siren for the Viper or is it a different brand?

There should be a battery backup available for that.check your local circuit city/bb or whatever. Its made by directed, but so is your alarm anyways.

yes^^^^get the 520t. every alarm ive installed (in my own rides) has one mandatory. i think you can find them for around $20-25 bucks depending. the battery is good for about 5 years from what ive been told. also, you may want to invest in a hoodlock. i know dei used to sell them but they didnt sell much so i dont knowif they still have em

What kinda of car theft are you getting where you live? Around here, the russian mafia just tows your car away, fast and easy if you don't keep it garaged. My old boss got his new TL taken out of his driveway about 6 months ago, no one in his neighborhood heard a thing.

My alarm has it's own internal power supply in the siren itself. So if you cut the wire to the siren it still goes.Does this mean a back-up battery is usless for my set-up?

no...they can remove your siren and throw it down the street. with a backup battery, every alarm feature *starter disable!!* works regardless of whether the siren is still there.

Yea battery backup sirens allways a good idea.Add that to what you allready have and thats good layers.

Also the on the towing note they make tilt/motion sensors.

We're getting break in's, cutting off battery, hotwiring cars, etc. They would strip the cars and leave them on the side of the highway about 5-8 hours later. Then the thieves would meet up at a plaza every Friday and Saturday to show off what they got. People in my area wants to get their parts back but the thieves are gang members. It sucks. On average last year, 1-2 cars were stolen every week. They stole my $350 headunit last year as well as 4 other cars in my neighborhood. A police officer recently moved in next door because of the complaints. But I'm getting ready for boost, so I just want to take necessary precautions.

Car alarm+Remington insurance policy=best bang for the buck...No pun intended. Make sure you ask for the 870 insurance plan
