Just grab the axle really firmly and keep trying to shove it in there. Mine was being a bitch when I did my trans swap. I just kept at it and it finally went in after like 2375892 tries.

as soon as it starts to slide on just give a push and it should pop in.

tap it with a mallet.....

x2

Make sure you have the axel nut on it if you use a metal one or give it hell with one of those soft face dead blow hammers

Oh tap the end :D I would grab the mid section and give it a good push from under the car but make sure that your clip is good. It's recommended that you replace it.

use the knuckle to drive it home :)

Amen.

Depending on how you pulled the axle, I always leave the upper balljoint and tie rod bolted on the knuckle/spindle. Feed the axle through the shock fork thing (technical term slips my mind) put the axle through the spindle, and in the trans as far as it will go. Then swing the knuckle and push hard on it towards the trans. usualy after 2-3 swings the axle is in there proper.

tap it with a decent size wood mallet or rubber one

son of a bitch... trannys in, runs good shifts fine, but ill be damned if this one isnt making a noise i havent heard before kind of a quiet ssshhhhhh gets louder when i get on it or when the rpms go up. i thought maybe exhaust leak but the sound seems to be coming from the tranny. i dont want to take the stupid thing out after i just put it in... any thoughts? its a different noise than the isb noises ive heard but im not ruling it out... also more gear noise than id think is normal; whining in first and second when i let the engine slow it down, pretty loud compared to my old tranny

got plenty fluid and shifts perfect?

RUN THE BITCH!

Just have the old one or a spare ready. When they grumble, then you have issues witha unhappy tranny.

when i tranny is grumbling like mine, would it be worth rebuilding or would i still have issues? i know id have to open it up to know for sure, but im trying to figure out if its even worth doing that. any ex or si transmission is next to impossible to find in my area apparently, so im stuck between a rock and a hard place or swapping to b or h series

I had teh same problem when installing teh new drivers side axle on my girls del sol, you just have to get a good grip on it and use alot of force. . I beliebe mine had a snap ring of sorts to hold it in
