My '95 EX has what's in my signature below. There's a guy at work that has a 93 Miata, so it has the 1.6L. I believe its stock except for the 205/50/15 tires and aftermarket alu wheels. We lined up at a light and we both were on for it. I left at about 2500 to 3500, wasn't looking, but by the sound of it and let the tires spin just a little so it didn't bog. He sort of jumped out in front by a few feet but by the end of first gear I was ahead. We only went to the middle of second gear, but at that point, I had about 2 cars on him. I was surprised. Maybe he's a crappy driver. I tell you all what gets people is power shifting. Not many do it. They're missing out.

Then, on another day, at night, I was at a left turn lane and a silver second gen RS with some kind of muffler blows by me but then the light up ahead goes red. I knew it was on. I didn't want to act all street ricer like, so I didn't leave hard, but you know, when you take first gear up through the revs slow but all the way to about 3500 or so and then just romp on it, we both did that, and I just pulled him hard, and by the end of second gear, he was toast, just like the Miata. I couldn't believe it again. Those things have 2.4L, they should be torquey, although they probably don't make more than 140HP stock, not sure. He blew by after I let up, the "Rice-bye" you know which one I mean.

yeah the early miata's are kinda slow. my friend had a 2000 miata special edition. 1.8L I think like 160 - 170 hp, 6-speed. I couldn't catch him for shit. and next year a turbo edition miata is going to be released. I want to see a race between the turbo miata and a s2000.

but anyway good job on your wins.

I give the win to the s2000, if the driver knows how to drive the s2000. they'll have to do what motor trend did and launch from around 8000 rpm. otherwise I think the miata will win

It's stupid. You'll agree when you are older.

Street racing is stupid, but if you love racing in general, its pretty damn hard to pass up a good race when the opportunity comes up.

I've never raced anyone going faster than 60 mph or so. I usually just do until I shift into third and let up. I'm done after that. It is stupid, yep, but, when a guy thinks he can smoke you, its time to educate a little about D potential.

Take it to the track (that's mostly for me, since I posted the races in the first place)

I would rather keep my tranny in working condition. If you are a good driver you don't need to "power" shift. Besides, a street race isn't worth messin your car up over.

^^grow a pair dude...if your a good driver you wont "mess" anything up shifting like that. I personally dont, because i squeeze at the track, but i will for an all motor pass.

Powershifting-It enables you to go faster in an acceleration run. Plain and simple.
Now, we can argue that anything we car guys do to our car might "mess our car over". Revving past the oem redline, doing burnouts, drag launch clutch slippage to get out of the hole, lets see, putting slicks on a stock diff and axles. On and on. When you do any of this, including powershifting, you're accepting the fact that your cars life won't be the same if you "grandma'd it".
Anyway, proven fact that powershifting will get you to the 1/4 faster than "good driving". I think if you're a good or skilled driver, you'll be good at powershifting. It takes coordination to not miss a shift and overrev or grind it...
Blah, blah, blah. I'm done with this thread. It got lame.
