That was the best price. I'm not sure if these guys are still selling em since I don't see it coming up on ebay right now.

Make sure if you get an OBX you find an installer who has done several of them and knows what he's doing. Even though some feel that OBX has improved their quality they are still being shipped with defects. According to my installer the OBX is a Chinese made Quaife knock-off. He has installed about 20 of them and each time he's had to dissassemble them and make corrections and in some cases do machine work. So he charges more to install them. The Quaifes he just installs without taking them apart.
I understand the price difference is very tempting, but among other reasons I don't recommend the OBX is the fact they stole the design and because they are made in China, copyright protection cannot be enforced.

my $150 install charge is based on 6 hours time.
While it normally takes about 4-5 hours to do the work, the bearings have to be pressed on and the press is about 30 miles away. Someday (spring?) He's gonna give me the press and I'll give him a Radial arm saw in exchange.
Also 88-91's need clearancing for the bolt heads.
I've never opened a OBX, my wrench looked like it was gonna strip the bolt head, or worse break it.

for some reason i thought you charged more? maybe it was from other sites like this one and you had a shiping fee?

I hear some good and some not good. I don't understand why I read so many posts on this forum saying "no problems at all" when it's so easy to find them with a little research. It's like so many here just want to desparately believe when clearly the OBX is inferior.
Here's a post from 3 weeks ago by Jim Truett on another forum.

Hopefully, at least OBX may be abe to put some price pressure on Quaife to bring down their prices - if they can.

I really want a Quaife cause i know im getting good shit from a reptuble source but the fucken price is killing me. Even the obx price is killing me 375 is alot of dough. I think i need to start selling myself again.
I went over my OBX (check my project thread), and only "problem" so far was the washers stacked in the wrong order, and three barely stripped screws.
I re-stacked the washers, fixed the screws, and put it back together.
If it saves me 600 dollars, and only the only negative points is that I had to open it and that it rattles, then I'm happy.

same thing for me, couldn't have said it better. (except I didn't have stripped bolts)

Thats it? He had a stripped bolt? Dude c'mon. I will go with replacing a 1 dollar bolt anyday to save 600 bucks. We all know they can come with stripped bolts, but thats like the easiest thing to fix. This is D-series.org, not K-series.org. We all build on a budget.

I think the point i would like to make is you pay good money for something you shouldn't have to worry about stripped bolts, washers in the wrong place to me that looks like somebody is just slapping the shit together and torquing down shit to what its supposed to be.

the washers are only there to preload the gears to keep them quiet.
Try to understand the approx 5:1 ratio of the torsen diff.
It's not like your preloading a clutch pack LSD.
I do check all the 6mm head bolts to be sure they are tight......never had one move.

The washers aren't in the wrong place. There is simply different orders in which they can go. Any of them work fine, but some preload the case more then other. We like to pre load the case, because it quites the LSD down when installed.
Under 400 is not good money for a LSD. Its a fuckin bargain. I'm saving 600 dollars for about 30 minutes of effort, plus I get to learn how an LSD works.
The point is, with proper measures taken, it works, it doesn't explode on you, and it holds up, but you get to take the 600 extra and do something else with it.

Good points i'm just not very handy or knowledgable when it comes to trannies and diffs. I'm going to have to have to find someone in my area thats familiar with installing these cause when i buy an obx this spring i just want to make sure it is going to function right and not break on me. So pretty much just make sure you double check everything before it gets installed. Cool Thanks.

Me too. I can build a decent motor that will last a long time. But when it comes to the tranny stuff, FORGET IT!!! I will gladly pay someone else to do it right the first time. But I guess if I really had to , I could. But back in the mid to late '80s they didnt have any tranny parts so we didnt really know about it either. Well other than weld the diff
