Raced a S14, surprised/angry [Archive]

I saw a S14 go by me at 90+ and since I had 1/4 tank of fuel(less weight, best for racing, yes very ricey) I tried to catch up. I put it into 3rd and caught up to him real quick. It seems that he wasn't going over 120-125mph. He had to have that KA motor still in his car because a SR would of raped me for sure. Those KA motors are nothing on top that's why it was no surprise to me that I was right on his tail the entire time. I kept hitting the damn speed limiter, didn't matter whether i was in 4th or 5th, really pissed me off. I must of hit it 5-7 times. My car still had plenty of power because it climbed up to that speed limiter real fast.

My car is a stock 99 dx 5 speed. His car had an exaust for sure, not sure what other mods were. It would of been an interesting race if I had no speed limiter. All I know is my car pulls really good in 2nd and 4th.

For all those that are going to tell me to put a ex tranny is pointless. Doesn't matter what tranny I have, I can't go over 120

This is true...BUT we all went through those time when we did the same dumb shyt.

i'm not gonna flame on ya. glad to hear ya had fun. But yes... trust us it's better off for the track. You could hurt yourself or others by doing it on the streets.

absolutly nothing. Been to the track. Some guy crashed into my car. Learned my lesson. Doesn't matter if the car is on the track or street, pretty good chance to get into wreck if you're racing. The only difference is on the street you're putting other people into that equation.

doesn't seem very likely to me. those ka's have a lot more hp and a hell of a lot more torque than any stock n/a d series.

'94 LS I/H/E, 2 cars easy in 1/4
'95 LS 4-door I/H/E, 3 cars easy in 1/4
'91 LS I/E, 2 cars in 1/4

all these were with my clutch slipping in 3rd gear and up. all were also from a dig and roll, friends that i still hang out with today.

i have an n/a motor...traction hits at about 20mph. i cant wait to get my ex mani on and race those bastards again...well, i have it on but major idle problems so i took everything off again and i jb welded the air injection holes shut and got a 2000 ex im gasket. now i just need to bolt it all back on.

two of my friends last night said that my car was quick for a 4 banger but it cant compete with v-8 motors. never mind i already beat both of them and they're just butthurt about it.lol

first off your buddy cant drive. second off, i never raced over 80 with my ls on the spray. it was pointless. thats where HP really comes into play. now when i get boosted thats a different story. my friends stock gsr turbo spun all the way through 3rd. plus its got the power to pull at those high speeds. i love street racing, and i also love track racing. but 25 bucks every friday and the 30 minute drive starts to hurt the wallet.

I've raced a 89 240sx with DOHC KA Swap, I/H/E Stage 3 clutch, welded diff, UR pulley and gutted from the two seats back and i beat it by 2 cars. I havnt had a KA stay with me yet, they are quick i give them that, but havnt been impressed so far.

KA-T's and RB's are where its at. FUCK the SR20

they're ok. I got a friend here that has a turboed ka. Laid down 210 hp and around 230 torque on 8 lbs with just a safc for tuning. The main thing holding those cars back is the weight, they are def pigs.

I know all about that. I used to have a KA24DE motor. So I knew from the beginning if I race a close to stock S14 there is a good chance I might win.

I've even sprayed a 75 shot on KA, on street tires it's pointless, the KA loves forced induction, it will sit in one spot and burn rubber.

My m8 has an fully buildt sr20, gotta say that thing aint slow. The nice thing about the sr20 is you dont have to do much or spend much to gain power.

His 99 s14a doesnt weight much either so its good. The best is s14 with rb26det like the r14 project made by full-race.

But it cost more though, so i would rather build my civic :TU:

That's odd. Everyone I've ever raced I've been killed. They are popular around here. A buddy of mine has a right hand drive silvia. It's crazy fast.

I've got an SR in my 1993 Sil-80 and I haven't met a honda that can keep up yet, (I know they're out there, i've seen plenty of videos), especially a single cam. I'm putting down almost 250 to the rear wheels, which may or may not be alot but it was enough to beat a RB25DET powered S14. The dude may have sucked but that's his fault, not mine.

And I'm not flaming on Hondas at all because I absolutely LOVE Hondas. I told my girlfriend to get her Honda and am trying to convince her into getting a Fit. Before I bought my stock 240 I almost bought a second gen. Integra, (FYI, I don't believe in Acura, Lexus, or Infiniti). Clean ass Hondas are pure automotive sex.

I'm glad, if you noticed i didnt say anything about Honda's being faster then a SR20 swapped 240. I simply said the SR20 sucks and i still think it does reguardless of whatever you've done to yours, its my personal opinion. I have been in atleast 10 sr20 powered cars, and 3 RB25 cars and around town the RB's own like theres no tomorrow, its like driving a car with 3 cylinders and driving a V10. RB hands down owns SR's, With a motor with so much rep, i personally think the Hype is what made SR20's so damn popular like the B16, B18C and so on.
One of the locals hit 11's with I/E and tuning the boost up to 12psi in a S13. name 1 SR20 that would do that, and most places sell the RB25 for $500 more then Black top SR20, so once again why the fuck is the SR20Det so popular?

You want to Impress me, take out your SR and put the 5.9L from the titan in your car, or maybe a VG30 with a 100 wet shot. I dont care if your SR20 makes 400whp, I still think the motor is over hype'd and like the old saying honda's are like tampons, every pussy has one. SR's are like tampons, every pussy has one.

Most people swap the KA out for a SR, but KA are proven that they are capable of a lot of power.

I wish I could see how fast my car would go without the speed limiter. I can hit the speed limiter even with 3 people in my car.

EG8SIR: VG30's are gay unless they are in 300ZX's. 5.9 liter Titan engines are kinda cool if they're in something else but not really, cause take a look at the December '06 Super Street. Cover car is the Falken/Drift Alliance 350Z, makes 362HP at 5,850 RPM and runs the quarter in 17.4@68mph ... gay. (Does make some nasty torque though). Nitrous is gay unless you're car really isn't fast enough or you're laughing at the dude at the fair cause he "accidentally" got high off of it. Some guys like nitrous, some guys don't ... I don't.

And the SR is popular for the same reason Honda is popular. There is lots of aftermarket potential for both of them. You can buy clear tail lights for Hondas, (and 240's), and the SR is all aluminum, light as fuck. (Might not be a good comparison but it works for me).

Hey I'm not trying to be a dick but I have to agree with the arguement for the KA. I mean I have driven my buddy's 92' DOHC KA and I went mid-low 15's in it and it was pretty much stock I/E. Maybe the car was auto? I don't know, but there is no way that a stock DX could hang with a stock much less an I/E KA. But yeah the EK speed governor sucks ass! That's why I love my car (EG). I have done some really stupid shit in my day, I know that if I put this stuff on here I will get flamed like a S.O.B and I will refrain from getting done so. All I will say is that I occasionally race on the street but I normally I will NOT do it. I am 30 and have a son and a wife that loves me and another kid on the way. I will say that everybody goes through the phase but then once you either grow up (not flaming you dude I promise) or see what it will do to people you'll eventually stop. I'm not throwing the BS flag because I hate it when people do it (it's been thrown at me sometimes, I'm a little too old to tell BS stories) so "do unto others as they would do unto you" and all that. Anyways, sorry for dragging on but be careful dude seriously!

EG8SIR, seriouly dude how can you say that about the SR? I mean I agree with the comments about B16's and such but the SR is a totally different animal. 5.9 swap in an S3 or any 240SX is gheyness! Yeah they have hella TQ but they weigh a ton! That's probably why the SS car ran a slow ass 1/4. VG is also a stupid idea! The design absolutely sucks ass! That's why they ditched it for the VQ. They are a bitch to work on and they just are so un-efficeint it's not funny. I personally have owned a 93' Z32 TT, JWT reflashed PCM (or ECU or whatever you call it) B&B fabrication turbo-back and upped boost. Yeah I made decent HP and decent TQ, but it sucked ass to work on. I have also seen it swapped in a 240Z, it sucks ass too. I hate that motor, as do most people on NICO Club (nissan and Infinity owners club, use to be a die hard nissan guy). What do you have in your 4 door, if you say a D16Z6 with I/H/E, I will have to disagree that you could beat a KA powered S13-S14 with a decent driver. Not trying to start shit but, I just don't see it. Often the KA is viewed very much like our SOHC engines, the bastard child. But they can handle and love FI no matter what kind. They are strong as hell internally.

KA's are stout because of the iron block. They have the WORST rod/stroke ratio EVER. It's so bad that people run and hide when they hear KA24DE and rod/stroke ratio in the same sentence.

SR20's are stout because their internals are stout. They have huge rods. (lol, huge rods) You can boost the crap out of them and they keep asking for more. The SR20 swap is the Nissan version of the B16 swap. It's a great motor but since everyone does it, people find a way to hate it. People hate on the B16 because it's a torque-less wonder. People hate on the SR20 for whatever reason.

RB's are fucking gangstaR. Period.

Hey dude, check the thread title. I don't know how much you know about Nissan but they quit putting SOHC's in them after 90'. From 91 and on they were all DOHC. The thread title is "Raced a S14....", the S14 chasis was introduced in 94'. So that would mean is wasn't SOHC! Could he have beaten an SOHC KA, yeah but he said he raced and beat a S14. Dude do you realize that a KA from an S14 puts down stock 150hp and 150-155tq to the crank? And if I'm not mistake they have a 4.34-5 gear ratio which is really good for 1/4? I mean guys just think about it for a while and you'll get what I am talking about.

I've stuffed 3 KA Powered cars, all with drivers that can pull 2.2 60ft's. All i have is SOHC ZC Vtec I/H/E and street tuned by myself and i have yet to see a KA powered car keep up with me, if you wanna call BS thats fine you dont have to believe me, but I and them (240 owners) know it. 2 S13's and 1 S14. They get out in front first and by the top of third gear, i am walking by them. Guess my Power/Weight Ratio is just better then there's, my car is good for low 15's all day. I ran a 15.4@90.8 with a 2.411 60'. I drop that down to a 2.2 15.2-15.1 all day long.

Maybe all the KA powered cars here are retarded or my car is faster then you think.

Dude I just said that 89's have SOHC. They are so fucking slow it isn't funny. They didn't change to a DOHC motor until 90-91. How you can tell is the front bumpers are different. The 89's have what is often called a "pig-nose" the air dams (if you want to call it that) are in the very nose of the car, all of those are SOHC. The DOHC's have the air dams in the bottom corners of the bumper. Same way with the 300ZX (Z32) the way to tell if they are TT is they have air dams in the bottom left hand corners of the bumper cover for the air to get through to the intercoolers.

89-90 "Pignose" are SOHC (KA24E) and 91-93 are DOHC (KA24DE). The SOHC makes 135HP and the DOHC makes 155HP stock. My friend is building a
KA24ET and should be ready by spring sometime. I'll have to race him to see how good he did.

they are nowhere near slow for a factory vehicle. all stock, a 240 would smoke any stock Civic from a dig or a roll besides maybe the 99+Si's. and with any mods at all, the result would be the same

I honestly have never seen a 99-00 SI (BTW I hate those cars, one of the most overrated cars ever. Especially to most Honda-heads) run better than high 15's stock. Like I said (and apparently ryan89crx too) I just really don't see it happening.

I saw one with just an ITR header and suspension (don't remember what) hit a 15.1@90 at a track in lower Wisconsin in like '01.

I've NEVER seen a bone stock EM1 run at any track.
