Now that my brake swap is over and done with (rear disc's, GSR fronts, Type R master, and SS lines) I am looking for new friction materials. I have decided 100 % to use Brembo blank rotors at all four corners but I can't decide on pads. I will be using the car for AutoX and possibly some Solo 1 events as well and yes it is my summer vehicle so it will be on the street aswell. Noise is not an issue for street use cause I know they will not be up to temp. I would like to have something that does not generate lots of dust but works well. Some ideas that have already been thrown my way include, Carbotech, KVR, EBC, Hawk, and Ferodo. I would like to hear from experience and not the advertisements.

my honest opinion..
ebc is very squeeky and dusty
hawk is very good braking and extremely dusty
im using project mu at the moment. not too bad but still a bit dusty
endless pads are my next step.. so hopefully they arent gonna b that dusty
so majority of the pads are quite "dusty" but its up to your budget and what temp range you are going
if u go endless i recommend the sss compound
if u go project mu i recommend the NR compound
Hawk.. im not sure what compouund it was but damn did they stop good :D but yeah very dusty

Aren't ceramic pads supposed to be virtually no dust as opposed to metallic? I'm needing to do a swap soon too.

i have ebc green stuff; never had one lick of problems. they've been through multiple heat cycles showing no, to very minimal fade. i can remeber one time that they have even started to fade, and it wasnt anything drastic, at all. for the money, i dont mind.

hawk HPS, HP+ are a great pad for track use but on the street in a panic brace situation they dont work as well since they need to be up to temp to fully grab.
I use hawk HPS. They are great street pads... I even got some for my jeep after trying them out on the civic.
I used to have EBC greenstuff and they had a lot more dust and didn't last long.
As for rotors, the cheap napa ones are fine... After all, rotors are just heat sinks... and I'd rather get new ones everytime I change the pads instead of buying expensive ones and having them resurfaced...

carbotech panther+ for me. bobcat's are great too, just not intended for track use. i haven't tried cobalt or hawk, but i've seen them both dust a lot more then my carbotechs. Axxis Ultimates dust more then the carbotechs too. EBC's..... you'd have to pay me a lot to run those POS again. i was getting uneven pad deposit's on the rotors so quickly i was having to replace the rotors every month. i'm easy on brakes too. the oem pads on my DD are the same from when i was autocrossing it. they've got 40k miles on them and two full seasons of autocross and they have over 50% of the pad material left.

Ah, thanks! I think I'll give these a try this year! They are available in Porterfield R4 or R4S, not the Hawk line :D

hey. I'm almost forty, memory lapses..................
what was I talking about???
I need to change my rear break pads. i went to Honda dealer today and they had some original Japaneses pads which was labeled NISSIN or something. he said that is the original from Honda. anybody has used this? any idea if it is good or not? my car is N/A so no turbo, no nitros and no track racing. it is all street driving! it is urgent, thanks for help!
beside that i can only find EBC greenstuff here! any suggestions?

I've used the green and red stuff from EBC. IF you are doing more city driving, go for the green...
Axl, I got mine from the EBC dealer in Malaysia..Pentagon Enterprise

I run Porterfields or Raybestos Quietstops, though they are hard to find locally. I ordered them from Partsamerica.com (I think?) I Love the Quietstops. The Porterfield R4S hold up really well to accasional auto-X or light track use, but if you are doing any kind of hot lapping, you should take the time to swap pads before competing in the event.

Thanks. i know Pentagon! where do you live? they had Endless which was expensive and EBC they had green and black, no red! black was very expensive but green was cheaper than Honda NISSIN pad! is EBC really made in UK?
so you think between Honda Nissin and EBC green, i should use EBC?

I really like my EBC Greenstuffs on Fremax discs. But they're on daily driver, never driven on track or otherwise hard for the brakes. Some ppl have told too that they won't last a shit on track, but afaik they're not even meant for that.
Anyway, definately better than Honda OEM pads on worn rotors 8)
Also, my brake force difference between front/rear is somewhat too much, I should put new rotors and those same pads to reat also..
-Hawk HP Plus for a dual purpose car. The only people that say they dont grab well when cold are the ones that never used them. They grab like crazy when cold. The problem is, when cold, they can be TOO grabby and hard to modulate depending on application. This could be a problem for auto-x but easily fixed by dragging the brakes a little from paddock to grid. Forget about using these pads in the winter as they will chew up the rotors like nothing.
-Hawk Blues for Solo1 only. Awesome pad but basically Race only. These need a good warm-up to be effective. You'll need another set of pads for Solo2/Street and will have to swap before each track day.
-Before upgrading rear drum shoes, try to use the stock ones first. What you may find running on a track with race tires and good pads, is that you can apply so much more brake force and unload the ass of the car more that the rears tend to lock-up. Using grabbier friction material may make the problem worse. Loosening-up the drum adjustment may help. Either way, locked-up ass tires going into corner at 80mph = NOT GOOD.
-There's also GranSport brake pads that has quite a few good track pad options similar to Hawk. I know Trac Racing Depot in Montreal ( http://tracracing.com ) has them. Call them and speak to Carl. Very friendly and helpful people at Trac. Maybe if you're a member of HADA, he can give you a discount. Or just tell him i sent you...

Black is supposed to be cheaper than the green pads. If u are not going to speang then the green would do good, they are definitely better than the nissin oem honda pads.
I live in Mauritius, used to study in Malaysia and nowadays i'm in malaysia/singapore once every 3 months for business.

cool! i bought the black today! i wanted the rear pad, dealer said they have no green pad for rear right now and black is good enough (i know he just wanted to sell his stuff!!). i called few other places they didn't have too. i needed a pad so i bought it for around 34 US$!
another question, i need to pass the break test to register my new engine number. rear break failed 2 days ago, that s why i bought new pads. mechanic that changed the pad told me i have to drive for few days before i go for inspection again and if i go now with brand new pads i would fail for sure! i have to do this registration ASAP since i cant get off from my work to do it next week or another time.
is it gonna fail the break test if i go after 2 days driving?

Why is this going to make ypur car fail the test????
I don't think so...
Here's what you do to bed the pads (Per Hawk's site):
After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.
Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.
DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down.
After step 4 your new pads are ready for use.
------------------
I did it from higher speeds to make sure I got the discs/pads really hot... then I drove around for about 20 minutes without using the brakes (to let the discs cool evenly) then I drove the car home and let the brakes cool overnight (I put blocks to keep it in place and did not use the parking brake to ensure fewer hotspots)
Why is this going to make ypur car fail the test????
I don't think so...
Thanks guys! i went today and i passed :) but i have to go again tomorrow :( for some paper work! they like it! bring you 3 days to other side of city to do a simple fucked up registration!
