View Full Version : more power?

I'm about to get an 88 hatch back. I read that the d15 makes ~100hp. I was looking at some options to make more power.
**~$2k= b16a swap, 160hp n/a
how difficult is this swap? is it something that can be done in a weekend? is there anyway to do it cheaper? the cheapest (http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30002) i found a b16a with all the crap is $1500. that seems like alot for a used engine.
**>$1k slap on a turbo.
easy enough, turbo e-bay manifold, e-bay intercooler, megasquirt, big injectors. What compression is my engine making stock? how much boost do they usually hold on stock internals? where is a good place to get cheap low compression pistons? what are the internals made of? forged by chance?
**e-bay boltons on the current d15: header, intake exhaust. good for 20hp?
also am I right in reading that this car weighs under 2000lbs?
can anyone help me with some answers? [/noob]

$1500 is cheap for a B series swap... you will need mounts, axels, vtec ecu (and wire in the vtec), shift linkage, and probably some more im forgetting. Yes this can be done in a weekend, or at least for someone who is somewhat knowledgeable with swaps. best of luck if you decide to go that route.

I don't think that with the current bolt-ons you will be making an extra 20 off of those alone, and the bigger injectors requires some kind of management, like the afc hack, or some other ems. 1500 is pretty cheap for the swap, but chances are you will probaly need more things to make it complete. BTW whats up bryan! This is mx-6er from hai.com, weird to find you on another forum.

Get a d16z6, build the bottom-end, swap it in, boost it, be happy (for about the same price of a b-series swap you can be making 300whp :) )

Yeah besides, if you were to swap in a b, you wouldn't belong here in the d-series forum! Lol, jk.

b16s are only like 130 whp...... i walk anythign with bolt ons that ahs a b16 with my pos slow car...
if your going to swap anythign besides a b16 is ok in my book
but with your d15.. you dont have much potential there anyways imo
best bet is either a d16z6 or a d16a6 swap and boost which could both be done for same if not just a atad more than a b16 swap.. and have mroe hp

interesting about the d16. is that an integra motor? I'm shooting for around 150hp. how well do these b15/b16 motors take to boost? I see alot of people not boosting too much on them, like <10psi (I'm a volvo guy boosting 17+psi on a stock block with no problems) are they aluminum blocks/pistons?

This ZC dohc franken-swap that i've read about, that should be good for 130hp on the d15 block? that should probably be okay until i build up a turbo motor. is it as simple as swapping the heads? I don't need any reliefs cut into the pistons? do the intake and exhaust manifolds from the 8v fit on it? I just need the vtec soleniod? is the head and solenoid are all i need, where would I buy said items? ( i realize I can't get into for sale yet :-( )

a d15/6 did appear in the teg but jdm only

b series can handle more boost stock but will cost twice as much as boosting a single cam :D

where exactly are you from if youve never heard of a d16??? and a dohc zc head isnt going to go on a sohc block...

I'm from eurocarland (also some toyotas and nissans) I know little to nothing about hondas, thats why I've been reading through the forums trying to learn about them. I know cars, just am an uber noob to hondas. so to do the zc (I'm not even sure what that really even means...) swap, (the SI dohc engine right?) its not as simple as slapping on a new head, the whole engine needs to be replaced?

the dohc zc's (which is the motor code) were found in mid to late 80's acura integras, you cannot put a dohc zc head on any sohc block. d16 motors are found in just about every honda civic you could buy here in the USA.

B16 EF's are potentially quick.

Pro's and cons of both:

B16 pros:

Swap is fairly easy, back mount is a bitch.

The B16 trannys are lovely, if you dont care about saving gas LSD is worht the extra 300.

You can fully build a b16 N/A and make close to, if not 230whp (ive seen it done many of times here in va beach)

you could also boost it.

D15/6 pro's:

Easy to boost, have plenty of potential.

Reliable as hell, they are pretty stout motors, to boost a non-vtec dseries id go with the D16a6 (crx si motor) and too boost a vtec d-series i'd go with a d16z6.

Cons of B16:

Price to swap can be "hefty"

Not much respect, "just a b16"

Kind of turdish stock

More money to mod ;)

Cons of Dseries turbo:

Tune tune tune =$$$

Turbo kit install can sometimes be a bitch but not really

takes some dough to have it reliable, ARP head studs are a must...

it's all in what you want really and how much your trying to dish out on power.

N/A is best, but BOOST is BETTER.
