As with any engine it is all about how you treat it. The ZC basically has a D16 block. Do you consider them weak? It's all about perception.
Oh, and idiots spouting off nonsense lol ;)

depends what your definition of "weak" is. im sure for the most part, d series motors would be considered weak.
is a motor that can handle 250+ stock block weak when if put into a light chassis, 12s are possible?

i got my dohc zc from Hmotorsonline.com back in april...and since the day it was put in, it has had the absolute NUTS run out of it...close to 40 1/8 mile passes and many many street races, even a bottle of spray run thru it...now after all of that its startin to burn oil a lil but only at high rpms...but other then that the motor is still as stout as the day i got it and sounds just as good..they are tuff no doubt...and sees 7500 rpms daily, even a couple times daily :-)

i would have to agree with 91HB-D15b2 the dohc zc is very stout and has been great to me for the past 2 yrs it has basic bolt ons ..and it can take the abuise just keep clean oil in it and good wires and plugs

even 11's if traction is there.
some dude (cant remember the name) on this forum ran a mid to low 11 with drag radials in a boosted std hatch. i know he had more than 250hp and his block was modified, but with a light chassis, anything is possible......................
and about your question about the zc being weak..................no, they are not. in terms of will they blow up and break easily, ect.........they are not weak. honda motors are stout and have good reps for reliablity. yes, if they are abused, much like anything in this world, they will break. but i think the guy that blew 2 in four months sucks tons of nuts and is a failure at life. he needs to have his eyes lit onfire and laughed at while he goes up in flames. he sounds like a complete ricer that knows the definition of jack shit when it comes to cars. tell him to go end his life.

i think what made em say that was that he drove his ZC like it was F&F and shited out his tranny that made him say this so i disagree with him they could take it u just gotta be careful

The DOHC ZC is not "weak"
It's designed pretty well from HOnda.
It's just that for the price and availability ~$400 - it's the most abused engine.
ANY engine that's abused doesn't last that long
The D15B VTECs are next...just watch.

Its a Honda so you don't have much to worry about. As long as the motor was maintained well, it should last for a long time.

ZC's are old engines. If someone gets one and it blows up , it's probably due to the fact that it had been sitting in a junk yard for 15+ years and they probably just threw it in without rebuilding it first. Personally, If I had no proof of mileage or how long it was out of use I would never just drop a motor in without rebuilding it.

i baged the crap out of 2 d15b2 sohc and dohc zc and none of them ever broke and they all seen the rev limiter daily for years on end. I thought the b2s would have gone but nope. Is the z6 block any diffrent internaly than the a6?

I have one broken in the garage. Bought a car (rover 216 sportcoupe (tomcat)) with the engine like that. I'm still waiting for the mechanic to take it out of the car.
Anyway, broke a rod, and the rod decided to take some air, and came out of the block. Same thing happened to a friend of mine in is crx (euro CRX 130cv).
Off course they where both on the throttle when it happened.
Don't know if they are week or not, but i've seen a lot like these. Anyway, B and H series engines also brake, so I guess it all comes down to what you do with them.

I have three hondas and i love them ihave had some issues with some engines but they were messed up by somebody else. I beat the crap out of my a6 all the time and same with my z6 they hold up for a long time if they are taken care of. D series engines are great.

I can't say I know a whole lot about the internals of the engine and everything, but I've owned one for almost a year now in my 95 Civic HB and it's been great to me ever since. I might add that, though I don't kick the SHIT out of it at all times, I'm pretty hard on it, booting it daily and such. So as far is durability of the engine, I've had it almost a year now and I don't see any signs of it dying any time soon but, who knows?
