88 CRX Si tranny question

I've noticed that clutches and other tranny parts are listed as either 88 or 89-91. Can anyone tell me if the gearing is different? If so is it different enough to make that much difference.... If not then what is the difference in the trannys??? Any info would be appreciated.

88 have 21 splines
89-91 have 20 splines

The only real oddball is the 88 DX tranny, it has a 3.722 FD.

So... does that mean there is not really an advantage to switching to the newer tranny other than part availability?

no advantage, only in the clutch 21 vs 20 spline department, less confusion.
