I grew up among these cars. Since I was a kid I was really interested in this maker, after Ferrari, Alfa Romeo is one of the most beloved cars in Italy, they have been around in GT2 category for a long time. Also as Alfa Romeo, Lancia is the other italian name the racing world remember.

PR 4 U !!!
I've grown up on Italian cars as well, currently my dad owns a Fiat Stilo SW 1.9 MultiJet (Daily driver), an Alfa 155 V6 (long distance commuter) and an Alfa Junior Zagato (swapped to a 2.0 litre GTA engine). I miss our '98 Alfa Spider 2.0 TS Lusso. :( Thing was a chick magnet on 17's. :)
My first car was an Alfa 33 1.7ie. Damn fine car, boxer engines FTMFW !!! But they're just too expensive to tune. Honda's are so damn cheap to make 'em quick, I've stuck with Honda ever since I inherited one from a deceased uncle.
One day I'll own an old skool GTA. One day...

Always interesting, usually good looking, and some of the best sounding cars ever made, IMO. I like Alfas, and I love rally. Thanks for the vids!

Nice thread. Alfa used to be HUGE a few years back in South Africa, then they pulled out and are now trying to get back in the game.......They are however plagued with reliability problems and VERY expensive repair bills.
I had a local guy about two weeks ago who offered me a 1994 155 2.5 V6 Ti swap for my EG8 and I said no.......his car was running and pulled like a mofo, it even had the tamed down touring car kit on it.
I've always loved the brand, but ALL of the models that were on sale over here, ALL had serious reliability problems, add to that almosy NO-resale value.
Jeremy Clarkson tested one a while ago and worked out that it depreciates by about £300 odd pounds per week.....

The reliability problems with Alfa are a myth. VW have a worse record around here, not to mention Mercedes... godawful reliability on all of their models since 1998.
Sure, an Alfa will occasionally have small problems (navigation, trim, boardcomputer, a fitting somewhere...) but NEVER something that'll leave you stranded, and warranty is handled well by the dealers.
By the way, the 155 was one of the first fully galvanised cars on the market. They can't rust. My dad's has a small spot of bare metal on the fender after a tiny little brush with a concrete pole that fell on it. 8 years, winter (salty) roads, still not even a speck of rust.

I wish it were so, but local problems are ECU, brakes and gearbox related. Nothing minor. My sister had a 147 selispeed and the flappy panel gearbox took a shit in under 6 months. Woman at my work had an ECU completely crap on her and was later traced back to a manufacturing fault........When Alfa first came back into South Africa, they were being sold/ serviced by Nissan SA. Maybe that's where the problem lies..........lol.
Don't mention VW as they're at the bottom of the heap..............even though I love anything pre 1967 VW.

Alfas are good looking cars....but with pratically no resale value. In Mauritius it loses more than half its value in 4 years.

They need to put the convertible prototype version into production. Looks 186,043,645,231 times better than the coupe.

Hmmm yeah, but Selespeed is a different matter. Who the hell buys a flappy paddle gearbox (or any auto 'box for that matter) on a small to midsized four banger anyway ? Just my opinion, of course... :)
They never worked properly due to underengineering and a consumer-testbed attitude, because Fiat aniticipated very low sales (and correct they were in their assumption).

I still find the 2.5 V6 155 Ti one of the most sexiest cars though........
