Here is a picture

Isn't the engine code stamped on the block somewhere? The valve cover doesn't mean anything.

Look at the rocker assembly and camshaft. If it has roller rockers, etc. it's the D15Z1 head.
If it has "normal" rockers, LMA, etc. it's the Z6 head.

Yeah, just look for the *soleniod*, even if its not their the bolt pattern will be their to give you a heads up also.

Both have solenoid! looks same! 95-00 3 stage VTEC could be known by its solenoids since it has 2 of them but not VTEC-E n VTEC :TD:

you can just find but looking inside the head and check the rockers. valve cover can be changed! :TU:

D-series heads have codes stamped on the head. I believe it's between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder exhaust ports. What code is your head?

if you open the valve cover and look where the vtec soleniod is there should be a hole..if it's covered it's a y8 head if it's in the open it's a z6 head

Here's another hint: The VTEC-E head has the friggen tiniest intake ports you've ever seen. Z6 should be much bigger.

a Vtec-E will be a p07 or P2M head.

i would try and use the vtec e head...port the head run some high compression pistons...maybe a y8 intake mani...a good header...it would be pretty snappy

These are roller rockers. They have a "roller" that contacts the camshaft.

Sort of hard to see, so go here for a slightly bigger picture: http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/AMkrew/?action=view&current=a082.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/AMkrew/?action=view&current=a082.jpg)

If it says p08, it's a d16z6 head, period.

Don't vtec-e cars have 2 vtec solenoids attached to the head?

AMkrew_1
01-26-2007, 07:36 AM
no. That's 2-stage vtec, like the 96-00 jdm d15b vtec motor.
