well i just recieved my header a few days ago, now i need a cat because i cant use my stock cx cat because of its design. so i have someone selling me a stock cat for $20 bucks, the only down fall is that its gutted, .is it worth it, ive heard of ppl making gains from a gutted cat i'm just worried its gonna sound like ass, really buzzy, any other suggestions.
i need something so the shop can add the rest of the exhaust piping.

another question. i removed (what i believe is) the donut gasket at the end of the stock dx header, can i reuse that donut on my new header?, fits good.

my magnaflow system is universal for the dx or ex. so basically i can use the pipe as an extension to reach the downpipe on the dx model, or a test pipe on the ex. i just had the exhaust shop weld in a 2 1/4" cat on the magnaflow system so i could install the header.

If you dont have a exhaust system it would be stupid to even put your header on, I got the magnaflow extenshion with my exhaust system. I would recomend getting this... If you do well then just go to a quality muffler shop and have them weld you up something, stainless of course.

just get a catalytic converter man. Running a gutted cat or test pipe makes a really buzzy annoying sound. I dont know where you're from, but in california, running without a cat is illegal anyhow.

usually the universal cats are really cheap and works just fine, just weld some flanges to the catalytic converter that way you can take it off later if you need to.

this is a combo that i have used on a few hondas that i have had

this is only if you dont want to run a cat and not loud

2 1/4 pipe right off the header and a cherry bomb right after the shift linkage
(any closer and you will burn up the cherry bomb or it wont last as long)
all the way to a stock style muffler

this combo worked for me and you wont get pulled over for a shinny 4in tiped hommie muffler

free flow
stock looking = less tickets
little to no noise untill u stand on it:TU:

I'm not going to tell you what to do... cats are there for a reason! They only impede performance marginally, at the most extreme 1-2 hp. If you really need that extra hp just put in better gasoline.

btw: I dont have a functional cat but wish I did, its very buzzy and my car stinks!

I have a eBay 4-2-1 and a custom mandrel bent 2-1/4" with a gutted cat...

Originally it sounded like hell, then I added an 18" resonator to the mix and it sounds great. I probably ruined any gains I would have got by gutting the cat by adding the resonator, but oh well, live and learn.

Long story short, gutted cat alone will sound like hell.. I suggest keeping it.

Also, you really should replace the donut, they're $6.99 at Autozone.

I would no cat is always the best the way to go. Cats are pretty resrtictive for the flow. For the buzziness just get a resinator.

I would suggest just running header with a test pipe. Cat's are over rated unless u are in an area where u have emissions testing. I run mine with header, and just straight 2 1/4 piping al the way to my muffler, no resonator, no catalytic converter either. It isnt to to bad, you just have to find the proper muffler to make it sound not as twangy. You will gain a little more power but i honestly didnt notice a whole bunch of power gain except in the top end..

Taking the CAT off will only give you about 1-2 hp on the top end. Not worth the extra noise. If you want a better flowing one, buy one for a Corvette. They are the highest flowing CAT's out there.
