I don't how the convo started but my @ work VP started talking about how back in " Good Ol' days " ... LOL when they raced they would put mothballs and WD40 in there gas tank for better octane reading. I couldn't believe this but I guess its true. I just though I'd share the info w/ you guys.
Thanks,

I'm pretty sure moth balls in your gas tank was a nasty ass prank and it fucked shit up if I remember correctly.

it helps, if your vehicle can run on leaded gas.

leaded gas vehicles usually didn't have cat converters... since leaded gas kills cat converters..?

-TAGthat was ping pong balls...
the fuel pump would suck the ball to the bottom and block off fuel from the lines and make your car stall. then once it died the suction would be gone so the ball would float to the top. car would start like normal, run for a few minutes then die because of the ball blocking the fuel again. EXTREMELY hard to diagnose, lol

Yeah they did. It didn't make the engine die, it actually consumed the gas a little faster than normal (their conclusion was that it could actually be making more power).

Well actually I knew about that one too, maybe I'm missing up the moth balls with sugar in the gas tank. I did some asking around and it was a "trick" that stock car drivers use to do apparently, and like all racing secrets it gets onto the street. It was with leaded gasoline though, something tells me that is does something to the gas the injectors really dont' like. That is what I remember hearing once at least that on a fuel injected car the injectors became fouled when moth balls were put in the tank.

I saw the ping pong balls in tank story on Law and Order CI a while back... very interesting! Don't think it would work on hondas though due to the was the fuel pump filter is setup...

how would you put a ping pong ball in a gas tank, without taking the sender out?

that would be funny as hell but a pain in the ass to get the ping pong balls in but we just use a 1/2 qt trans fluid for a small tank of gas or a full qt of trans fluid for a big take of gas. smokes like a bitch haha

my question is how do you get to hold their wing apart and smell thier balls.

He's talking about the good ol days of NHRA Pro Stock drag racing. That was a trick before it was outlawed and considered illegal.

They "said" they used mothballs but slipped in some nitromethane instead.
