drive next to a brick wall like in an alley with your window down... that will give you an idea of where the sound is comming from... try it on both sides of the car ie: driverside and pass. side and try to zero in on it.

i would say that its prolly a driveaxle, but it could be alot of things , hardware in the brakes will make a thumb noise with a bump, could have warped rotor but your feel that alot in braking , i would say check the axle, the brick wall theory sounds good find out with side it is , then take a look if the axle you cna turn buy hand and has play , will have some play but alot of play means you have a worn axle, also this could be cause by a balljoint, maybe a brake caliper sticking , it could be alot of things ! maybe this will help

sound is coming from the front driver side..i got under and checked the axles and i feel a tiny bit movement in the axle but barely.. also my friend changed my pads in the front and told me he noticed that the cv joint is shooting..don't really know wtf that means but i sure could use some hints..

well your CV joint is basicly the axle , you can replace the whole thing , and thats prolly what it is , if your losong grease from in there then its prolly the CV joint , its DRY

could it be a shot bearing? i had to replace a bad bearing on the front driver side, but that was about 16k miles ago. or can it be the pressure plate behind the front wheels?..i just want to know for sure, and do it right the first time..thanks

my old axles in my celica were torn to shit...completely apart
and it would only click when i would turn at first or hit bumps and first accelerate. id bet axles too

how long can i ride on it before i replace them? or would this need to be replaced immediately? also the suspension is stock except coilovers, all 4 upper/lower strut bars..car is pretty low to the ground and doesnt have a camber kit..

if your axels are bad they will click on you... around corners, under load, etc...so jack it up and inspect the cv joints. If they are bad the boots will be cracked or broken or even missing. Boots have to be intact cuz thats all that is keeping the grease in to lube the joints... if torn or missing you will most likely need to replace the boot and/or whole axle.

i looked under today and the boots are intact, not cracked, broken or even missing but i noticed the their was grease or goo on the end of the tranny and was dripping..i grabbed ahold of the axle on the passenger side and has some movement but not a whole lot.. the driver side axle seems ok. could this mean it's now getting to the stage of being worn?

if there is grease you prolly have a tear somewhere...ive gone under cars and didnt see tears and saw grease...then looked closer and slower and poked around and found tears..

i wouldnt drive on the axles long if that is the case ...without grease comes major friction..with friction comes heat..making it brittle and it can snap..

and it makes a dreadful noise...makes me shutter >.<

i took your advice and double checked and god damn.. i found a rip on the front left side of the cv boot. it didnt wear down on anything else which is good. fixing it today, hopefully everything goes well. thanks
