ok here the story
im swapping in a new engine so while im at it im putting a new clutch and flywheel in it. now i need a tranny, and have no idea the difference between them
i own a 95 civic hatch with the dx tranny for that year, ill either have a d16y7 with a z6 head or a d15b jdm vtec engine.
i need a tranny that is a median between auto-x and saily driven, wiht maybe a bit of staight line pcikup.
i was thinkg about building a tranny with 92-95 gears from a vx/dx/ and si, but i dont have the time. whats a good hydro tranny for me?

there too short for my taste
(u dont want a ex/si tranny for turns) the gears are too short
i want a mix of a ex/si 1 and 4
with a dx 2 and 5
and a vx/cx 3

You just said you didnt have time to build a hybrid...if you dont have time for a hybrid your best bet is an ex or si trans...the dx trans(wich i have) has way to long of gears and kills acceleration

ex tranny is by far the best, lx is more for the top speed thing.

to short for turns? no. Its still a long tranny. I'm a fan or the track (road racing, not drag) as well, but will be signifigantly shortening my gears. The only thing long gears are good for imo is boost.

lol, its going to be boosted in the not to short future

still go with an ex/si tranny for boost.. longer gears ARE NOT better no matter what basically

if you don't have the motor yet just buy a d15b combo. the tranny is an ex/si and i give it a thumbs up over the dx. i had a d15b7 with a dx in my 92 4 door before my motor blew so i paid the extra $150 bucks to get a perfectly matched tranny for my engine. and like i said, might as well buy as a combo, plus you will save on shipping. i also think there is also something to be said for getting the exact trans your new engine came with...

for boost, i wouldnt go shorter then ex/si, as a matter of fact, thats probably a good boost tranny unless your usiing a massive turbo, and need to load up the motor to build boost, and hold it for a while before having to shift.
NA on the other hand, its too long!

what gears are in a y8?
same as the z6 ex trans except the y8 has steel shifter forks and the z6 has aluminum and wear out faster

you know guys, if you are racing on a track....and different tracks for that matter....then you need MULTIPLE gear sets if you are serouis about it.....different tracks will require different gears to get in and out of the turns....therefore improving track times in some cases by a mer SECOND....which could...COULD....result in the win or the loss....

Why do you think I'm always asking what the car will be used for......
you can have to close of ratios also, rowing all day long just wears out the parts and the driver, my not be any faster. Have to shift 2-3 coming out of a corner (1.900 2nd) or being able to hold second gear until straight (1.762 2nd) might be worth .5-.8 seconds a lap at Mid Ohio. Useful at the Keyhole and Carosuel.

for a daily driver, ex 1-5 with 3.888 or 3.7222 final or 4.058 if using 0.702 5th
for a race setup, go balls to the wall.
anything in between is perfect for nothing :)

i got a ex/si tranny the other day, but i think the sychros are out. so im going to do a hybrid between my dx tranny and the ex. i just wish i had some extra cash for vx 3 and 5th

OK, considering none of us are racing H1 (D series in H1?) Thats not relevant. Any of us track whores will come up with a compromise tranny where we wont be building like 5 1000 dollar trannies, and swapping em out.
For me, 1 sec is only good for bragging rights to a couple friends.

1 sec is a really big difference when racing in parking lots.
i have both an ex/si and a dx/lx, im going to test the ex/si at the track next month, i hope it has the right gears for it
