Hey fellas,
I have a d16a1 (its a project car not a daily driver), and a couple questions about building an engine for nitrous (I am looking to do a 75-100 shot). What should I do? Changing my cams, headers, and pistons is kinda obvious. But do you guys have any specifics...example -> What compression ratio have you found to be most successful (should I go higher, lower, or just leave it alone and get stronger internals) and do you know of any brands that handle the stress a little better than others (spark plug manufacturers etc.)? Also I hear a lot of people discussing dry kits vs. wet kits, what do you guys think? Lastly what are you guys favorite brands and do you guys know anything about warranties, refill programs, or upgrade policies that I should be aware of? Thanks for your help.

read the stickies and do a bit of searching, you'll find 99% of your answers.

EDIT: I somehow left out that the static compression ratio should be dictated by the type of gas you are going to use.
and do you know of any brands that handle the stress a little better than others (spark plug manufacturers etc.)?
A 50-75 should put you one range colder than stock. Possibly 2 depending on how much dynamic compression you actually have.

Wet kit, hands down. Easier to tune right, less prone to running lean (if your running stock fuel stuff). IMO, its much safer for someone who is just starting out with nitrous.

Your never gonna find a 100% definite answer on wet vs dry.Wet can also have noob user error related problems. When the shot engages the fuel pressure at the rail drops(which is why they sell booster pumps and ppl do dedicated fuel systems) and a liquid (fuel)has a harder time traveling down the intake tract and atomizing so the cylinder furthest away from the jet will run leaner then the cylinder closest to the jet and this increases more if the jet isn't the right distance. To me the safest and easiest to tune 1-75 shot short of getting a direct port, is a dry kit with walbro pump,b&m fpr chipped ecu and 310cc lucas style injectors.Dry kits get their bad rep from people running too big of a shot, which drastically raises the fuel pressure on a stock pump and injectors to add the extra fuel and strains the stock system,or they incorrectly install or buy a kit that has one solenoid and no means to add fuel via pressure so they just inject nitrous and no extra fuel.
If your honestly thinking about a 100 shot you need to be looking at a DIRECT PORT kit which doesn't have any of those single wet fogger problems,or high fuel pressure levels of a dry kit.Honestly with a built motor like what you want anything other then a direct port is a waste.
I have always ran 2 step colder ngk's with out any hiccups just make sure they are gapped correctly.
Nx makes pretty much the best kits these days. Also zex has a new direct ort kit but I haven't seen or heard anything about it personally.

Well my engine, before making it turbo, was sketched to run nitrous, around 100 shot. Essentially It's about reducing the compression, so stay around 8:1 8.5:1 ... you'll need Hi beam rods, forged pistons, Upgrade your valve train to some stage 1 or 2 cam, Titanium valve springs and retainers, Optional titanium valves.
Upgrade you injectors and fuel pump, wet kit, and tune... tune... Know you got an idea go read the sticky !

Willie S (banned member) ran 100 shot every weekend on his stock z6 motor. i run a 75 wet shot on stock bottom end ls daily. for a built motor a 100 shot is a waste. i would run 10:1 compression ratio. and if you can get a good dual tune, run atleast a 150 shot.

If I was going to run the higher compression pistons and the 100 or more shot I would look into an upgraded ignition system.I am personally running an msd blaster ss coil, msd extreme hei style cap and 8.5 super conducter wires with msd hei boots. No complaints so far.I have heard of some people runing into problems with ss coils but I haven't,with the ss coil or blaster 2 coils which I have ran in the past.
They have also started selling at more places the moates 2 timer chip kits so that you can switch maps for an n/a map and a nitrous map or any other combo like a regular map and valet map.
