I've been playing OFF AND ON for 6 years

Epiphone Special

Ibenez R120:, Just bought. I like it. Still kinda unsure if I wanna keep it though. It was ethier this, a jackson dinky or a special 2. I really wan't a locking tremelo, but everyone says they suck to setup. Beside I haven't seen a locking tremelo for less then $300.

Fender amp: (I forget the model, it has an amp selector and effects selector, $150.00) which is buzzing bad now and it's only 6-7 months old. Good thing I paid the extra $20 for the warranty. I'm going to trade that shit in. Recommendations on a guitar amp?

Guitars:

Jackson SL2H, stock (black).
Have owned it for some years now, but haven't played it in over a year, due to it not having strings on.
Guess I've been too busy changing them. Waiting for new sets of strings now, so I will soon play it again :)

Gibson Les Paul Studio, w/ EMG 81 humbuckers (black)
Bought this back in '99, only half a year old. Have played it alot. Kind of heavy, but has good tone I think.

Amplifier:

Marshall Valvestate 265.
Bought it many years ago. Great amp, which I'll probably keep forever.
I don't really play that seriously, so it's good enough for my use.

Extras:

Jim Dunlop Cry-Baby. Got a Digitech multi pedal, which went bad. So I traded it in for this.
Some wah-wah is nice in the solos :)

I'm not a great guitar player, but atleast I enjoy it. I've played mostly Metallica in the past, but now I'm going more towards Maiden and most of all Dream Theater.
But copying Petrucci isn't at all possible! He's just too damn good.

Schecter Spitfire
Schecter C-1+
LTD M-150

Peavey XXL head
Marshall 1960A Lead cab

SKB Rack:
Korg Tuner
Shure PGX Wireless
Boss Noise Supressor
Rack Rider Power Conditioner

used to have a Marshall JCM2000 TSL head. but i got rid of it because the tubes were losing their power too quickly. so i traded it for the Peavey which is half tubed, half solid-state. and it gave me money for some of the other stuff you see above.

^DAM! you have a shitload of gear. I suck balls and can't justify spending any real money on gear.

Any recomendations on a cheaper amp ($150 max) and guitar under $300?
for metal.

I really don't play anybodys music. Metallica mostly. I mostly work on technique and speed. some improv.

you can get a cheap fender starter set for around $450 i think.. that comes with the guitar and amp. I'm rocking the Epiphone Les Paul Special as well, and also a Rogue acoustic/electric. I have an old-as-dirt squier amp running through a digitech RP50 effects peadl and a Mackie DFX12 sound board. It sounds great, but if I could afford a real Gibson Les Paul Custom, I'd have one so fast...

Lol..............................way to dig up and old thread.

Been upgraded since last time.

Got a new Kerry King V neck for my warlock as well as picking up a Jackson PS4 with spare EMG's to boot. Also got a MT2 boss pedal and I have a new amp on order.

Still into the rock and metal.

I'm learning on a Epiphone SG with EMG 81/85's. I feel like giving up though. I'm a better precussionist than guitarist. My 4 year old has a Ibanez Mikro that she is taking interest in. She's actually big enough to hold the fucker!!!

Guitar Hero, One black Les Paul and I Custom Xbox360 wireless SG white body with white pickguard, with tapping mod and killswitch. lol If only guitar hero counted towards real goals I'd be a decent guitarist. R G Y B Y RG YO O BY BYG R BL BLY BLG

Don't give up, rather pack it away for a while and try again later. I so regret giving up about 15 years ago and starting up again now.

Rather give up guitar zero.

Gotta make it fun man, screw the chords and learning stuff, do a search for some tabs for music that you like and learn a few songs, that made akll the diffs with me. Now I'm at the stage where I want to learn actual music to take it further.

I just got a cheap acoustic from my buddy ($20 it cost me!) for a Jasmine (cheap line of Takamine...kinda like Squier and Fender). It sounds damn fine though with some nice strings on there.

How about (bass) guitar?

Fender P bass (has P and J pickups)
Hartke HA3500 head
Hartke 4.5Xl cabinet
Korg DTR-2000
2 Space Rack Drawer (not in the pic)
Signal Flex power conditioner

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/xvbrandonvx/S7301214.jpg

For guitar set up I don't have much anymore but I've got an Epiphone SG (g-400) with a gibson 490T pickup in the bridge and a small practice amp.

Some of the equipment that I no longer have worth mentioning:

Bass:
Randal Road Warrior head
Yorkville 15" cabinet

guitar:
Gibson SG-1 with an EMG 81 pickup in it (trying to get it back but no luck)
Epiphone Les Paul Specail with OBL pickups
Epiphone SG pierced special edition
Randal Pro Tube 1000 head
Sovtek Tube Midget (50 watts...dumb for letting this go)
Yorkville 4X12 cabinet
Marshall 1960a 4X12 cabinet
Boss Metal Zone, GE-7 EQ, TU-2 Tuner

Stuff that I'm going to buy soon:
Power Conditioner
Something for volume control, not sure how I'm going to go on this route yet
15" bass cabinet
Either a back up bass or upgrade and use my current bass as a backup

I play a B.C.Rich Virgin w/ Black hardware and a seymor duncan invader bridge pickup. It sounds freakin sick.

Im mostly a bass player now.
I play an eppiphone thunderbird(unfortunatly)
Ampeg B2-re head
fender rackmount tuner
alesis compressor
Line6 Bass pod

Check out my band at: www.myspace.com/dd1rox also have a listen at theis new song of ours on http://www.edgelittlerock.com/cc-common/artist_submission/punisher/browse.html?sort=sid

You can't go wrong with a good tube amp. Marshall modfour is sweet sounding, also Carvin makes a good head. Don't buy behringer though. They just have cheap copies of good gear.
