i have read alot and made some posts and am greatful for the information that you all have given me.
i am doing a z6 block and head boosted with upgraded internals and an evo3 16g turbo. 15-20 psi
there are dsm's making 400+ hp on those turbos but i have been told that it is difficult to get out of the 200 hp range on a d16 using it. because i am going to spend the extra money on internals i dont want to limit my hp and 1/4 mile times because of a couple hundred dollars on my turbo. so if 250whp and a set of slicks will put me into 12's which i believe should be atainable out of this setup. what would it take to go 11's in general i know altitude weather track and driver all can make drastic differences in 1/4 mile times.
i appreciate all of your help i started out wanting to run low 13's and it seems like every day i read a little bit more and i want to go a little faster.

200 on a d16 is very easy to reach! I am using a dsm t25 at 10psi and making 210. Throw some good rods and pistons in it and boost 20psi out of that evo 3 and you should be around 300 give or take with a good tune. If you are a good driver and throw some slicks on it you could be in the 12's.

With 230whp you can gurantee to run low 13's. Many guys with 275-300whp have already dipped into the low 12's and high 11's. It all comes down to the driver and don't forget your slicks.

Not too sure about how big the 16g is. If I was going to run 20psi with a 16g I rather run 20psi with a t3t4oe 60 trim.

i agree that a 60 trim would yield much more power, but the evo 3 is the biggest 16g manufactured that i know of and it should spool by 3000 rpm.
now if i am wrong on this please feel free correct me! it seems like many people are useing t3/t4 57 trim turbos which have a peak efficiency between 22 and 25 psi. but are only running 15-18 psi and some even less than that. so it seems to me if that turbo is not hitting its efficincy range then a smaller turbo like the 16g would yield as much or more power because it is being used to its efficiency rate. and my knowledge of turbos is limited to dsm cars which are 2.0 lt. so the turbos efficiency rate i would think would go up in our smaller 1.6 lt. like i said feel free to correct me i am here to learn!

Erm, peak efficiency or not, a 57trim .63AR at 15-18psi is good way big numbers, a lot more than a 16G will ever put down even at it's peak efficiency.

you wont hit full boost with that turbo till 4K+. 275ish whp with some nice slicks and a decent driver should be enough for an 11. it would probably take close to 20psi to make enough power to pull an 11 though.
i had a small 16g and i was doing 13.3/102 on 12psi stock Z6 in a full interior Si hatch.

well i definately appreciate the feedback keep it coming i appreciate that everyone here that has posted feedback seems to be helpful and stay on topic it is very hard to find a forum like that! So I gave everone a rep.
so if i want to run 11's should i just buy a 14b learn to tune appropriately then upgrade to a larger turbo, or try to hit it on the 16g and maybe give D's a little more respect. i dont want to spend 1000 on a 60trim just to blow it, not that i want to blow the 16g either i just think it is more likely to have problems if i start out that large with my limited tuning. (i'm not going to be running high boost until i'm confident in my motor and my tuning)

What kind of 60trim are you looking at? Last time I checked T3T4 60trims were about 525 bucks. IMO if you are doing it its better to do it right the first time so you don't end up wasting a bunch of money on parts you don't need. Just get a 50trim t3t4 run a base map, take it to a tuner, and be done with it.

will someone post a link or just tell me where to go to get a turbo then i generally use slowboyracing for my prices because they have a good return policy and warranty. i will gladly pay 100 dollars less for a bigger turbo than i was going to pay for the evo3.

this is what i will be running. no return policy, but its way cheaper than your turbo.

dont want to put down your setup by any means!! but isnt this one of the"ebay turbo's" that there seem to be many posts about poor reliablity and the need for an oil restrictor? if this is a reliable turbo i would buy it in a heart beat but i dont want myself or anyone else to blow their setup.

no doubt, your motor is toast if you run that, it looks like some ss autochrome piece of shit. $200 for a brand new turbo should kinda throw up a red flag:bull:

When you go boost why cheap out on parts? I just don't understand why people don't pay money for the quality stuff. You pay top dollars for a built motor, but then cheap out on the whole turbo setup. Doesn't make any since at all to me. Like I said do it right the first time and be done with it.
The 16g is a great turbo... see my vb pic gallery dyno plot at 15psi.
272hp, 240 torque and great spool... This in on a small 16g with a 10cm turbine housing... It's all about picking a turbo that's well sized for your motor...
A t3/T4 may give the hard hitting top end, but sucks in regular driving. My turbo doesn't lag too much and is a blast to drive...
Oh and 11's takes a great suspension... no point in 50 more hp if you can put them down...

i hope that by cheap you mean the ebay turbo not a 16g i wouldn't consider that cheap

my car is pretty much going to be a drag car but i would like to keep it streetable to a point. no point in building a car that cant be driven.

That's what I meant the ebay stuff. That's cool if you wanna run ebay turbos, but I would much rather run a proven turbo like Garrett and Precision. Instead of one day taking a long drive out of town and crapping out on you.
With bigger T3T4 turbos theres going to be a lag. I honestly hated driving my T3T4 setup in town it was boring. Couldn't spool the thing unless I took it into the upper RPMs, but your in town so usually higher RPMs equal trouble. But on the highway it was funner then crap.

yeah i definately wont be buying an ebay turbo i just cant decide which turbo to get from slowboy the MHI EVO3 16G is about 600 dollars and i know it will spool quick but with the info you gave me i can get a t3/t4 cheaper than that so now i dont know should i get the 50 trim and spool a little faster or get a 60 trim and hopefully eat some vettes.

You should take a look at compressor maps also to see if it's what you really want. I think the T3T4 46trim compressor map looks good if I could've done it again I would've went with the 46trim.

well as you know i have come here for your help because my plans for this car grow everyday. the real reason that i want to make this run 11's is because i have a group of friends that are diehard b,h series fans who say that a sohc has next to no chance of hitting 12's let alone 11's. so although it is alot of money just to say i told you so. i will enjoy it if i choose to go that route.i have a new question to ask though i chose to build my dseries because it is different, my brother and i are working on starting up a speed/tuning shop because we dont have anything in our area. so i plan on using the shop to sponsor the car and hopefully attract some business. do i go all out 60 trim turbo on a fully built motor and try to make some seriously high numbers or do i go totally budget make a descently fast car with the 16g and vitara setup, the big power might attract people but a 12 or 13 second car built for less than $5000 will attract customers too.

I've got a total of $4700 invested in my hatch. (including the purchase price of the car) I'm expecting it to get into the 10s in the spring. :)
