ok.. me and my friend went to the junkyard to get him a turbo... we found a saab i think it was a 90 with the b202 turbo intercooled engine..

the turbo was in good shape so we pulled it off.. it has the t3 exhaust flange and it has a stamp texx-12b (where the x's are its been rubbed off so idk) its a oil and water cooled turbo.. i just was wandering what size was the turbo...

and another question.. my other friend that think he knows everything says that you dont have to hook up the water cooling to the turbo just leave it open and run the oil to it.. he says if the turbo goes bad it mixes the oil with the water.. idk i think hes wrong obviously if it was water cooled it needs to be hooked up like the way it came from factory

lol im still newb to turbo.. just the water cooled kinda confused me but its a nice turbo no shaft play its in bitchen condition..

anyways.. you guys know my line.. anyhelp would be great +rep thanks

im not sure if you can get by without the watercooling, but why?

alot of companies charge extra for the water-cooled option. I think that i would probably use the feature if it had it. i wouldnt base whether or not to use the water cooled option on "if" the turbo goes bad (and im sure your not, i know your just asking out of curiosity.)

yea.. cuz i have this friend who thinks he knows fucking everything and hes built sooo many 10 second motors that i have never seen.. hes building my friends b20v and my friend is like.. dude i cant spin the motor over by hand ( just the shortblock) but he can spin his ls shortblock over by hand.. we think he messed it up..

anyway im blabbin again..

but ya he thinks he knows everything and im like.. dude if its watercooled obviously it helps to cool the water.. his response " no thats a water warmer" lmfao just like the vx oil/water cooler on the oil filter " no man thats just to help warm the water up"... lmfao..sometimes i just wanna fuckin slap him lol

anyway off track again... mm beer is good lol wait.. what was i asking lol

oh yea.. anyone know the size?? it looks exactly like my t3 .42.48 but like the hot side( exhaust side ) is smaller and the cold side (charge side) is bigger.. like its pretty big.. ill take some pics tomarrow

Saab only used three different turbos that were both oil and water cooled with the t3 style flange. They include:

-Garrett TB0357
-Garrett TB0358
-Garrett TB0382

They also used an oil and water cooler mitsibishi turbo, but it did not use the t3 flange, so i dont believe that this is the turbo.

this info can be found at this link at the bottom of the page....
http://www.900aero.com/main/tech_main_engine.htm

i didnt do any further searcing for the specs on the individual turbos listed above, but im sure someone will know something about them.

But about the watercooling.......i just bought my turbo from blaastperformance.com and i talked to the guy before buying it and one question i asked him was the difference that watercooling would make. I remember him saying that it would extend the life of your turbo, and also make you life easier because you wont have to change the oil as often. I dont think that the watercooling option has to be used simply because it serves as an addition to the oil cooling and lubrication (the water wouldnt lubricate, just cool). But i would most definately use it, especially if the turbo has been subjected to water cooling while it was on the saab. I think that your friend is a moron, and little should be taken seriously by him.

The water passages on the turbo would obviously help remove the heat and put it in circulation to be cooled.

lol i know... me and my other friend ( the one were putting the turbo on his car ) wants to use the water cooling.. i mean duh... water is at 160-190F the turbo can get up above 500 im sure prolly hotter i just dont know... so obviously the water would help cool it, hence it came setup like that..

i am going to be using the water cooling, lol i just thought it was funny why he would say dont use it and leave the lines open (without capping themoff) lol

anyway's lmfao yea im gonna clean it up tomarrow and see what the ar's are on the hot/cold side tomarrow

you dont need to cap off the lines if you dont use them, its not like someting will leak out if you dont.

What comes out isnt the problem, its shit that could get in.

whats going to get in and whats it going to hurt? the cast iron center section? there nothing inside the water cooling passages except the casting around the bearings/shaft.

:TU:

makes more sense to just block it off. Its not that much of a hassle to do and its VERY simple.........so why not just block it off.

doesnt matter anyway, hes already established that hes going to be running the watercooling so there will be no reason for him having to block the water cooling port.

You can run it without the water cooling because I did on a t25 for a little bit and then hook the water cooling and with both hook up the turbo spools faster and better!!!!
