View Full Version : looking for more (inexpensive) power..
Well im sure you all know of my bottom end build up.. But im still running the stock a6 head and cam. Im looking for some inexpensive power since im going to iraq in 2 monthes. Sending my cam to get reground is un doable because i need to be able to drive the car. Heres the engine setup:
-High compressoin bottom end. righ tnow about 10:1 soon to be 11.5:1 after headgasket change
-Stock a6 head and cam
-K&N airfiler on short peice of pipe conected to stock air intake tubing rubber crap
edelbrock header, 2 glasspacks, on 2" exhaust tubing
would it be worht spending the $50 or so to get an adjustable cam gear?
what about an ebay intake tub? any other ideas?

a delta 272 cam. you don't need to send your cam. they can use a cam core for you for an extra $30 and then once you install yours, you can send your's back and get the extra $30 back.

Just out of curiosity, how is a headgasket change going to bump up the compression over a point?
Do you know where you are going to be deployed in Iraq? I just got back from Baghdad in August. At least you are going when it's not 140 freaking degrees out! Though, you may have to deal with lots of mud depending on where you are going. ;)

Nitrous.
stock cam, raised compression, pump gas, cast pistons and nitrous are a no go.
a camshaft is the next logical move. it will wake your motor up.

hmm a delta cam would be about $130, right?

a chuck norris round house chris would do you fine. lol.
if i remember correctly, if you know someone from that area delta cams give locals a better rate. cough *guest, krycheck57, f00ker* cough. then again i haven't either or of them on d for a bit.

Really? I'm dying to know why.

High cylinder pressure might make it go boom perhaps...

I guess it's possible if you run too much or don't have it tuned right.

It's very much possible, believe you that... With high compression, the margins decrease aswell.

Ture. I don't see what pump gas has to do with anything. Nitrous likes high comp and cast pistons are fine. I've ran the crap out of nitrous on my mustang with hypereutectic pistons and ran just fine. Forged would be better, but I've had decent luck with the hyper u's. Hell a bunch of people around run the bottle on stock cars. Even a few honda's.

Nitrous loves high compression ask anyone who knows,it's turbo and supercharging that doesn't.Either way those pistons don't if they are what I think they are,the ringlands are weak.

nitrous and high compression with oem pistons is a no no... forged high comp then go for it... ringlands wont last long with oem pistons...
next logical step is a cam and cam gear.... go with the 282..
Cast pistons and also stock rods where my worry with the Nitrous...

I could see the ringlands being a problem. I would go cam, but nitrous is so much fun.
i think im gonna get the sohc non vtec zc cam , and throw it in with my y8 cam gear. while imin there im going to pop my head and put in my 2layer headgasket

ah sweet thanks man =]

What about me..................
I'm one of the OG's of delta cam. I got mine back when they were $50.

Very true. Those hypers in the 93-95 5.0s will hold together longer than the block will.

Kind of. The new school of thought is to use higher static on the centrifugals given they make more boost higher in the rpm band and use the overlap to make it work dynamically. Roots or screw-type, obviously not. But there are a few people as of late to run 10:1 and up with centrifugals.
Few issues back in popular hot rodding come to mind . . .

You still won't believe that using HG with middle layer removed is REALLY bad for the engine? And don't you have A6 cam already?
Just put your cam gear in, put it to correct stock timing and then try to retard cam 3...4deg.. That made good 4...8k in my D15 w/ A6/7 cam.
ok well maybe ill leave the middle laye rin. still good for 11:1 compression :p
i thought abou the y8 cam gear, and just marking it for TDC based off the a6 gear..
