I was reading an article of a D? engine and cause there were carbon deposits on the pistons the compression was higher and it added 5-6hp.I was thinking, can i increase my compression safely with a head gasket from 9.6 to 10 and gain ~5hp.I own a civic vti ek3 1.5L???

Is this a stock engine? Do you have any internal mods? I will send a link to you later with a compression calc in it. I am not sure if you can increase it that much by just a head gasket. If you are looking for a good increase you might have to shave your head.

The D? engine was all stock.I think it was the one with 105hp at the crank and ~91 at the wheels. With the higher compression it came out with 95 at the wheels.
Mine has K&N air filter and final exhaust muffler and also i'm thinking on adding HKS AFR and C.A.I..
I've seen some head gaskets for the b16a engine that altered the compression by 0,4.So i think for the D15B it won't be so difficult either

If I have a lean burn engine (D15B 3 stage vtec) will increasing the CR cause detonation? My car runs at 20:1 AFR in the lean burn mode.
^^ Daz ur ride Jozzy? You in the caribbean too?

just to add my egine is the same as urs but i converted to manual
the lean burn mode still works i really dont understant that 20:1 CR
though

mill your head, but the best way would be to swap in some pistons from a d16a1.....

I got to start travelling man.
dude.. that was a scc article,
people need to stop taking that stuff as gospel.
they just MENTIONED that they THOUGHT that maybe the d15b7 pulled harder cuz it was so old that MAYBE it had carbon deposites causing higher compression.
that hardly makes it remotely true.
especially considering their reasoning for being suprized in the first place
was that it should run 17's stock.. i've seen plenty of stock dx times in the mid 16's to show that they're just a bunch up knowitall article writers.
