Okay here it is. When the car is rolling (approx. 40-50mph) a bearing whine noise comes from the front of the car. As the car slows down to approx. 15-20mph the pitch of the noise changes. It does this in neutral or in gear with the clutch in or out. Sitting at idle the car does not do it, it has to be rolling. It started happening after I came home from the track this past wensday. I wheel hopped pretty hard several times heating the tires. My first thought when I heard the noise was wheel bearing, but then I started to think about a differential bearing or some other kind of transmission bearing. The only thing that makes me not want to think it is the trans is that the trans is bran new. It only has about 9,000 miles on it. Anyone's help would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem (92 dx hatch w/175k miles). I suspect it`s the wheel bearings, but i`m too cheap to buy new hubs...

Anyone else have this problem?
Wish I had info for you.
