View Full Version : Some goddamn noise in the car

squeeling/rubbing sound after 25 mph, changes pitch with suspension movement at right front tire....turn right and the noise transfers to left hand side, but doesnt do it as loudly.... had the wheel bearings replaced lil over a year ago approx 30k on them since... i also swapped an axle becasue it had a torn boot thinkin/hoping that MIGHT be it, but it wasnt... brake pads dont appear to have odd wear on them, or signs of odd contact, disks are flawless no abnormal wear whatsoever....
please help me on this.... the only thing i can think of is the wheel bearings but with that lil about of time/miles i refuse to believe it..... thanks to all who look, bump this when u read it...!
catch me on aim: aadiofreek rep for those who have sugesstions.....!

Worn bushings?? Something in the steering possibly?
i do need ball joints and have worn bushings, but it is a spinning sound.....i dont think the steering has anything to do with it..? it mainly does it while driving straight... but that is a good suggestion rep for joo

Oh shit thanks for the rep. Do you have the plastic water guards under your fenders? Maybe they are sagging into your wheels... I dunno man, theres not a whole lot that rotates in the engine bay that can squeek as well.
Although! I just remembered my friends Del Sol... the tranny would make a slight whining through first gear, and make whirring/squeeking sounds at the axle boots because they had no grease in them/water had gotten in.

check the heat shield behind the rotor and make sure it isnt bent to where it is rubbing on the rotor.......yet that wouldnt make very much sense if the sound moves from the left side to the right side under steering.
is it a screehing/squeeling or does it sound more like metal to metal. It kind of sounds like your input shaft bearing just because you said it sounds the same in every gear.
But even though you replaced your wheel bearing, i would still check those....just to be sure.
it doesnt really make sense to me, but its hard to understand exactly what you are expiriencing through a thread. Maybe some audio of the noise would help everyone diagnose the problem.

11-20-2006, 09:52 AM
soooo....the pitch of the sound doesn't change, at any speed...that would lead me to believe that is something that ISN'T rotating, because everything that rotates moves faster when the engine moves faster, the only thing that stays relative is your rpm...so, something has to be loose somewhere, or some from of bushings worn out..what does the lower control arm bushings look like?? or the front tie bar bushings?? stick a screw driver in between and see how easy you can move that shit around...
" Low "
11-20-2006, 10:09 AM
well i discovered when i am slowing down and pulling into the driveway it sounds like a slow clicking noise but other than that is isnt speed relative.....

11-20-2006, 10:15 AM
check your brake pad clips and make sure that the top and bottom ones are in...Ihad one fall out once and it gave this stupid ass rattle everytime I went over a bump, also, if you are turning and its clicking, that is a sign of worn cv's....
" Low "
11-20-2006, 10:23 AM
i just replaced the axles as stated above..... and it isnt a normal clicking sound, i have checked all the lil clips and shims.... it isnt those.
sounds kinda like a speedo going out only a liil louder....
Lude-icious!
11-20-2006, 10:30 AM
when you did the cvs you greased the shit out them right? and the wheel bearings? there is a wonderful little c-clip on the passenger side cv where it goes into the tranni and if it is broke, or not installed right you will get alot of movement in your cv and get premature wear...if it is possible to post a sound clip that would help out alot...I realise the difficulty of that though...so try jackin the front of the car up, and grab a rubber mallet, and smack some stuff around...try and pinpoint where the noise is commin from...could be a busted shock...or mount somewhere too...
" Low "
11-20-2006, 10:33 AM
the wheel bearings are sealed so i cant grease them, the c-clip is on there, fought that lil bitch more than usual, and i dont have a way to do the sound clip my cam is being repaired and i have moved and tighted everything i could think of
i had the tires off 7 times yesterday ....
ionno man shocks are good and all the mounts are fine too..... i do need new balljoints but i have needed those for a while now
Lude-icious!
11-20-2006, 10:39 AM
that could be the clickin sound dude...if you can take those ball joints and shake them and they make noise that is probaby the problem...when I mean greasin the cvs I mean the bearings on the ends, when before you put the boots back on you gotta pack them with grease...if everything else checks out ok, I would assume the balljoints are the culprats...replace those SOON...I wish I had picks of when I busten a control arm due to ball joint wear...completey ruined one of my new aluminium 5 spoke rims...and caused alot of intersection panick lol!!
" Low "
11-20-2006, 10:45 AM
the ball joints dont move, they just have a tear on the boot and the cv's are up to par you can swish the grease around.....the ball joints dont make any noise/or at least this noise

i got a 95 coupe and a friend changed my front pads and told me he noticed the cv joint is shooting..he told me to replace it soon..but what exactly does this mean?..can anyone tell me

Your CV joint on your axel is going out/shooting grease out. Either replace it or get it rebuilt.
Low EG-T did you ever find out wtf it was?

sounds weird ... but did you checked your calipers?
I had some whishling issues and "rubbing noises and it was a pad touching the disk whenever I steer left or right. The noise transfered to the other side... Happened to be the caliper bolts ran out of grease so after breaking they do not open correctly so one side (one pad) is closer to the disk causing, sometimes, touch the disk with steering movements.

well sometimes happened to be a squeling other times like a humming constantly and even more on turns... I figured out it was something related on the wheel or tranny. My CVS were ok, the bearing ok. The liner sound copletely different so I raised the car and spinned the wheel manually. I found one pad touching the disk... It was the insider. Went to the other side same story. So I opened the caliper to se what was going on with the pads... I found that the hinge bolt, that also is a slider, wasn't greased anymore. So I lubed the the bolt (on the flat side, not the thread) and purged the front brake lines. The humming was gone. I thought I could be the caliper not open correctly after braking. That's my expierence. For you have a check cost nothing.
Hope it helps.

When I worked at Nissan i had a couple cars to that to me due to my lack of putting grease on the caliper pins.

Try flipping your tires from one side to the other and see if the noise moves with it. If it does move swap the fronts with the rears and see how the car reacts. If the noise moves when you move the tires you have a tire that belt issues. Have it checked to make sure it's not out of ballance, but if that's the case your probebly going to need a new tire.
