i have a 98 civic ex and an extra p28 ecu and obd2a to obd1 adapter harness and i was wondering if swaping out the obd2 ecu for the p28 will give me some ponies? will it be safe?
thx

it will be safe,by doing that the ecu no longer will use the knock sensor , the secondary o2 sensor and a few other sensors. i don't think that just by switching ecus you will gain power, but with a obd1 setup you can get an hondata s100 or just chip the ecu to make more power with your current setup

OBD II if focused on emissions as OBD I isn't focused on emissions. You will be able to get more power from an OBD I ecu than you would out of a OBD II ecu.

word ... just swapping the ecus wont do shit .. get the ecu chipped .. speed governor removed .. and having that ecu will help in tuning , later on

I have read a few posts where people claimed that they actually made more power with the Y8 ecu(P2P?) compared to the P28 on a stock for stock basis. P28 is easier to tune with as mentioned above.

The obd2 ECU is not really chippable at this point in time. A few people have been messing around with trying to get an EPROM to work with the OBD2 ECU but I haven't had any luck yet. I don't own an OBD2 car so I've got to build a conversion harness from obd0->obd2 or obd1->obd2.
For your questions about power, yes, get it chipped. That's the real advantage to going obd2->obd1.

stock for stock you will probably lose power with switching to a p28. However the p28 will respond better to mods and is able to be chipped. I am running a chipped p28 on my y8 and I love it!

i highly doubt you'll lose power with a stock p28. in fact, i bet you will gain with y8+ bolt ons and a p28.
