ive finally decided to ditch my hondata and go with uberdata. i think this is a good idea. my question is for the dataloging untill uberdata comesout with its own variation. but right now there is ecucontroll for obd 1. i was wondering if anyone has used this and seen how it works

Yep, I'm friends with it's author. All of us DIY programmers are friends with one another.
Anyway, as far as ECUControl goes, it rocks the house. You'll like it. a $23 modification to your ECU, in addition to running the ROMs, and you're set. Download the software, have a look see. If you want a demo, let me know and I'll try to make a little video of it.

sweet.. I am so excited to be able to sell my hondata and get like 800 bucks to do something important with.
im going to try this Max233 serial i/o device where do you guys get the connector wires for them the look just like basic jumper connectors from a computer like u use to hook up the power and reset buttons. will simply hacking these out of a computer work allright??
new sig is going to be
hondata = thieves

Yep, I just use regular wire.
Here is an ECU I did for the founder of HomemadeTurbo.com to work with TurboEDIT's datalogger (Will work with ECUControl as well!).

Get a usb extension port connector (for the pci hookup) Its the same cable that runs from the motherboard in a computer to the pci usb extension/add-on ports. Only difference is its 8 plugs instead of 4 but soldering separate wires will work too.

what's the purpose of the chip on the serial connector? Can't you just wire a db9 connector directly to the connections on the ECU?

No, the serial communication protocol used by the microcontroller (standard) is TTL, rather than RS232 which is what the computers serial port is. The board that the DB9 is connected to is a TTL->RS232 converter (MAX233A).

ah thanks for the info... something new i'll have to research into.
I'm developing an LCD screen interface for datalogging and real-time programming. I'll let you guys know when I'm done 8)

....really, you might want to work with the guys at PGMFI.org. ;)

yeah, i've been reading their stuff... but i don't want to infringe too much cause i might sell it if it works. Then again I'll probably post schematics and just sell to those too lazy to build. The only thing I'd need to really infringe on is Doc's datalogging code... i sent him an email about it but he hasn't gotten back to me.

Ya... I would be careful. We don't really like "helping" those who try to profit from the hard work we put into the Engine Management we provide.
...oh well.. Good luck I guess. :)

yeah, that's why I was thinking I'd make it freely available on pgmfi.org when it was done, but sell it to people who don't want to bother learning all this stuff. Some kind of middle ground I suppose... kind of like the DIY-WB kits that are sold, even though the schematics are fully laid out on their site. When it comes time for testing, I'll broach the topic carefully and see what people think.
Besides, if I did make some for profit, it wouldn't be on a hondata scale... just what I can do on my own. Then again, this is all moot until I actually get a prototype working.
