I have been looking for info about the 96-00 D16y8 EX tranny, and I have found that the stamping "B000" should let you identify that it is an EX tranny. With that in mind I went to go look at my HX tranny and I found that it also has the "B000" stamping on it (I am the original owner of it). I then went to look at parts at MajesticHonda and found that the EX and HX shared the same transmission housing but have different gears. Does any one know of any other markings that the EX and HX trannies may have?

HAH, and bone didn't believe me!
the HX/EX transmissions both have the same housing. You're not going to be able to identify them by looking at the labels.
However, if you push the shift rod in, this will place it in 4th gear.
place a clutch on the inputshaft and mark the differential.
count the number of turns with the clutch that it takes to make one full differential revolution
HX 3.722 * 0.909 = 3.38 rotations
EX 4.250 * 0.909 = 3.86 rotations
