ok guys. i am planning on chipping my ecu soon and tuning my car NA and a nitrous tune using a two timer and crome pro. i dont have a wideband yet, or a knock light. my engine also does not have a knock sensor. and their are no P75 base maps floating around, so i have to start from scratch. i understand how to do the fuel when i get my wideband and my datalogging ready. but how do i know how much timing to pull/add. sorry for the tuning noob ?. if anyone knows a good write up on tuning, post it up

the ignition timing thread in here is dead. so....

when my tuner and I went out datalogging you could feel when timing was off; it would be really choppy at WOT.... the only advice i can offer is that if it doesn't feel right, you need to change something...

another piece of advice i give is that use common sense.. the numbers in the cells are degrees of timing... positive meaning advanced negative meaning retarded timing.
id start with a stock map of some sort (they can be found....) and go from there.

for most setups, -1deg/psi is a good conservative starting point

for most setups, -1deg/psi is a good conservative starting pointthats EXTREMELY conservative
for my basemap i run .7* retard per psi, then add/subtract from there

the basemap i made for my turbo setup next spring is set for -.6*

would the 2 degrees really matter? i mean, its such a small increment... or is it??
like would there be a huge difference between like 25degrees and 25.5?

small increment ~ small difference.

well the problem is that i cant find a good ls basemap, and if i run just a p28 map with no vtec, and pull .75* per psi, im scared that i will have too much timing and will detonate like a mofo. i plan on getting a turbo xs knock light and an egt sensor when i get more in to the tuning world. im the only one in the cleveland area with any knowledge of tuning hondas, so i think i could make some money.
basically what i am asking is, how do i know how much to take out if i am reading a slight amount of detonation on the plugs?

^^^ Eric knows whats up, he did a great job tuning my z6. He also tuned his h22; so if he knows H's and D's he could prolly help you out w/ your B... just PM him or sumthin...

like i said, -1deg/psi is a START. conservative, for sure.
ideally you need some form of reliable knock detection to know if you're detonating. IE: det can

how about nitrous. my first tune will probably be a nitrous tune. then doing a secondary burn using a two timer and doing a NA tune. i need a daily driver before i throw the turbo shit on.
