hot red on the header?

what does it mean? when my car idle very low and if i gas it. it will die. plus if i leave the car on for 5-10 min you can see the cat. turn hot red.

Yessir. Agood catalytic converter should never turn hot red, the point of the catalytic converter is to get the catalysts out of theexhaust before its entered unto atmosphere and can become clogged.

Def sounds like your cat is clogged. Get a new one. Or if you dont have the money just ditch it for a test pipe, depending on where you live.

To test it i'm assuming you could just unbolt the exhaust right before the cat and see how it runs...It should be back to normal if its just a clogged cat.

had this happen on my s10, make sure your plug wires arent crossed and in the correct firing order.... mine were off when i bought it same symptoms.....the result was the motor firing on the exhaust stroke and i had 2 burned valves....... the cat wasnt clogged tho'.... food for thought... i am shreveport for 2 more days i think i might get me a big assed prime rib tonight....and hit the tables....:TU::TU::TU::TU:

Or remove it, and punch the 'guts' out with a big pipe and some muscle.

Here in PA I'll fail inspection if there's not cat at all, so we hollow them out.

This also happened to me on my 86 capri. The cat may be damaged now, but find the cause. My was improper air fuel ratio (Oxygen Sensor) which casued one bank of my motor to get the wrong air/fuel. Check your O2 sensor....
