i've been noticing people going for the p28 and was wondering what's the advantage of converting from obd2 to obd1 with the y7block/y8head minime?
why not just keep the obd2 ecu?

they switch to tune or they have an 0bd1 car. a p28 wont give the y8 head its full potential because the y8 and z6 maps have diffrent timming. but if you chip the p28 then you can tune your setup.

If you're JUST doing a mini-me I say chipping a P28 for an OBDII setup is overkill. My cheap advise is to do a mini-me first and get it running with a P2P. When when you're ready to do other mods like boost, then chip it.

thanks
so is it as easy to chip the p2p as it is the p28? i heard the p2p's were a bit of a pain in the butt

You essentially cant chip an OBD-2 ecu....you can, but be prepared to spend WAY more then its worth.

Sorry, I meant to say to replace the P2P with a P28 and chip the P28.

The OBD1 ECU's won't look for the extra EVAP Components that a 96+ ECU will. Therefore, with a 96-00 ECU, you'll through a check engine code unless you convert your entire EVAP system over. Unless of course you have a 96-97 EX ecu from a Sedan...

No. This is incorrect. You will not have to convert your entire EVAP on a Y7/Y8 mini-me.

could you not use the ecu from the same car as the z6 head? or is that the p2p ecu your talking about? im looking at doing a mini me on my edm d15z6 using a z6 head from the d16z6, could i get away with using the ecu from the same engine or would an obd1 p28 b better? its for my 97 edm civic.
