1. I've got a S20 LSD tranny swapped into my stock Si hatch. The speedo sensor plug is a different shape and I have no working speedo in my car now. So now I need to do some sort of VSS swap. Can the USDM VSS just be swapped in? Do I need some special adapter? Otherwise, everything else seems to work fine with my D16z6 engine.

2. What tranny fluid should I use?

3. Also I was just curious about the gear ratios for this tranny. It feels slightly different from my old cluster. Without a working speedometer, it's hard to make an objective evaluation.

Thanks all in advance!

just bolt int your old VSS assemble IF the gear teeth are the same size/pitch..........if not just swap the VSS unit on top of the assembly.

S20 LSD has same gearing as 92-95 EX/Si, except maybe for 5th gear. It could have the Del Sol Si .750 5th.

Well late Saturday night they tried swapping the part that screws onto the housing with the plug in it, but that didn't work. Is the VSS unit just below that? I don't have a Helms for the Civic, but I couldn't find the page in the 95 Helms manual for the VSS unit assembly. I figured that would be close enough for as a visual reference.

Okay, so the nice guys at the parts counter at the Honda dealership printed me out some views of speedo assembly. So do we need to swap all the stuff down to part #9 on this diagram?

compare the teeth/pitch on part #9 between both assemblys. If they are the same, swap the whole setup. Bolt #10 is all that holds it in.

Do you have any pics of what you are working with and the odd sending unit?????

Pics help greatly!!!!!!!

If you have nowhere to host them, email them to me at ctague@cinci.rr.com

Well we moved everything from #9 and up over... sorry, no pics. I didn't read your reply in time. I didn't get a chance to compare the gear teeth before the job was done. The speedometer works find now. Is that good enough? Or should I have it pulled out again to make the comparison?

So how long are these OEM LSD gears good for? The car will be daily driven with an occasional autocross. Should I be working on getting someone in Japan to buy me some LSD rebuild kits from a Honda dealership over there? My original Si tranny was pretty much okay at 276K miles on it. I have this fantasy of driving this Si to the million mile mark...

if speedo is working, all should be fine.
