I finally called the tuner last night. He said he could set up my ecu to install chrome for $50. Right now my car has the P08 ecu that came with the JDM D15B. Would it be worth it to try and find a stock LX ecu and pay $60 to have it chiped & set up for vtec. Then sell the P08 for profit?
I called one junk yard before they closed last night. The guy said $100 for a non vtec ecu.

^^^ the usdm ecu's are easier to chip i do beleive... but on the other hand i got a 5speed p28 with 12" of harness wire for 10 dollars from a junkyard.... and thats what i'd look for and have it chipped, burn a p08 map onto it, then create basemap and tune from that.

edit: must have missed the part about having it converted to vtec, in this case on ebay or something, a p06 would cost less than 100 dollars after shipping..

get the cheapest ecu... i usually go for the p05 automatics.. cx auto.. or the p06 auto... dx auto

then chip them and add vtec and for the p05 add 4 wire o2 its really easy... actually the junkyard i go to i got a p28 for 40 bucks and p05 for 30

are you gonna smog? The P08 lacks o2 Heater, PA, etc.....

Does it matter if I use an auto ecu and my car has a five speed? Would every thing still work, like the cruise control? I'm such a noob at this.

JaredKaragen- The car is running the P08 now. Luckly, in NYS we only have a visual inspection for the OBD 1 cars, OBD 2 have to be plugged into the computer. They don't actually check your pipe for what is coming out.

Chip the P08, let me know if you need the parts.

You can easily add the transistor on that P08 to convert to 4 wire o2 if you need to as well when you chip it :)

omg... looks like I need to consider moving to NYS =P

I have a set of resistors/caps for the ECU... you'll just need the 74HC373 SMIC.... like $1.23 on digikey.... and a socket... the rest is cakewalk... unless you wanna add datalog...
