View Full Version : d15b with TT rods, and vitara pistons build up

Here is my build up on a d15b with TT I beam rods and vitara pistons. Now I dont know the exact static compression.. Ive gotten alot of different answers maybe someone will know for sure. I belive its 9+:1 because the motor feels close to stock power. I did not have to notch the block.
#4 piston got a hole from the turbo blowing oil.
http://tullostechdownloads.hypermart.net/pics/rebuild/melted-small.JPG caused my my turbo blowing oil into my motor.
I bought some TT rods and virtara pistons while back which I had on a 1.6, but the 1.5 was in such great shape that I tore down the 1.6 and took the internals for the 1.5. I dont know what kinda static compression I'm getting, but I'm guessing its altleast 9.1:1
I had to buy a damn electrinc impact wrench, but it does work good.
http://tullostechdownloads.hypermart.net/pics/rebuild/impact-small.JPG
I went ahead and replaced the timing belt, bearings well 3 of them.
http://tullostechdownloads.hypermart.net/pics/rebuild/belts-small.JPG
I rebuilt the motor in less than a day so I did cut alot of corners so my isnt block ane engine bay didnt get cleaned from the blow out.
http://tullostechdownloads.hypermart.net/pics/rebuild/block-small.JPG
the sad part is, I get can a motor together in a day, but I cant rebuild a turbo nor find a replacement in a day.. so I had to go back to NA
http://tullostechdownloads.hypermart.net/pics/rebuild/NA-sucks-small.JPG
I've put about 50 miles on the motor so far. I'll post some more pics later. BTW a 1.5 NA blows in a teg.. I got to get my a new turbo ASAP!

Nice, just ran it on the calculator from Zeal Auto Works and it comes up at 9.18:1. Through some boost at that and it'll be sweet.

15lb on a stock d15b for a while.. my turbo finally blew causing spraying oil on my pistons which caught on fire and melted my #4 pistons. It happened so quickly that I just get driving to work, but I still drove it home afterwords. I bet if I would have pulled the #4 plug that I could have driving longer.
Basically I broke my motor on a thrusday and I need the car on the road my monday. I had these parts so I made it work.
I'm very curious about the static compression though

Static comes out to 9.18:1 and effictive is about 18.55:1 useing 15psi as your boost pressure. With a good tune, you should be able to bump that up a little and really scream

How did you get the information on the pistons? How big is that dish? What software are you using?
I'm thinking about going with a GT28RS or something similiar. I'd like to feel the difference between BB and standard bearings.

Compression calculator! (http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html)
GT28RS on that would be a sweet setup, but nowhere near enough to risk blowing the motor again.

the d15b motor accepts d16z6 internals? so i can just buy z6 internals and it would work with a d15b motor?

The rods come from Tuner Toys (a site sponser) and the pistons and rings come from fjt (I think thats right) on here.

The teg was a drag car as you can see from the fuel cell in the rear of the car.
I've always wanted a DC2, but I never found one for the right price. When I ran across this basket case for $200, I had to jump on it. After getting this car for very cheap, I didnt want to put any money into this car. What I did was strip my del sol's suspension/wheels/strut bar/radio/motor/tranny/turbo/misc parts and put it on this car just to get it on the road. I sold my stripped del sol shell for 1500. Finding black leather interior was a chore, but I really like it. I built this car from scratch. Installing the AC was the hardest part. It has all teg AC parts with a civic compressor. I live in the dirty south so I must have AC.
This is a very original car. I dont think anyone has anything like it. I'm not saying my car will ever be fast, but it will be exactly what I want from it. So people hate the idea of a D in a gsr, but I dont care. I love my car!

I dunno, I don't think there is any way I would get rid of a GSR engine in favor of a D15B. 180hp vs 125hp, about 20+ ft/lbs of torque, much stronger transmission, etc. I have a 94 EX, with a D15B, and plan on turbocharging it, but only because it will be a lot cheaper than a swap. But if I had an Integra, there is no way I'd rip the GSR out in favor of a D-series...

Im looking to do this build but I am really looking for a 9.1:1 C/R instead of what I am getting, I am considering on getting a Cometic HG if 9.83:1 is correct.
