Hey guys. I need help. I'm running on a D15b7 engine with minor bolt-on mods and I'm wondering if a 2.25" exhaust would be a bit too big? or should I just go with 2"? Also how much louder if I took off the resonater but I still have the cat on...Thanks. And btw how many inches is the oem exhaust piping for my car. it's a jdm. :?

I think the stock piping is 1 5/8" . I use 2" w/ no resonator.

So which is recommended? 2.25" with resonator or 2" without resonator?

the resonator only helps noise reduction.

the resonator will only help with noise, if you keep it will be loud but not crazy loud because of the cat still being there. as far as 2 or 2.25 it depends what you are going to do with the car, i have 2.25 on mine with no res and i like it. it all depends on how loud and what your plans are.

i have had several dif exaushts on...

stock with muffler cut off = stock mustang loud
stock without muffler and resonator= tiny bit louder
NOw-- headers 2.25inch with no cat and hollow magnaflow muffler = rice loud and gives u headache on highway

I kinda designed my own. I heard from bone back in the day about the moroso spiralmax muffler, and decided to buy one as a resonator as well. I used the flowmaster 40 series center in center out for the muffler. 2.25 piping and no cat. so mellow its disturbing with the cat in. I put in the test pipe so I could even hear the car. I also have a greddy header, and it still isn't loud.

I have the JDM D15B 3 stage vtec CVT. Top Speed headers, no CAT, 2" straight through with the stock resonator and a RS racing barrel.
The car breathes fine. A nice tone when the Vtec kicks in too.

BTW my exaust is crunsh bent.

2.25/2.5........you dont want to go back and have to get bigger piping when you upgrade to a cam/nitrous/SC/turbo.....whatever....you never want to have to go back......i run 2.50. since day one
