hi,
can anyone tell me what benefit is to be had from putting a v-tec head on a non v-tec? i`ve been scrolling through alot of threads and repeatedly keep seeing this but do not understand, if its really worth doing what would be the best for route for mine as i own a d15b7 95 coupe? I have also read that it all depends on what sort of driving you do, i like taking mine for a thrash down the back roads near me so i need off the mark acceleration and mid range, not too bothered about top end.

Cool, basic first post =) welcome to the board... u need some rep here for askin what's right first off...
to break it down, SOHC=VTEC on intake only, DOHC=on both intake and exhaust....
VTEC is just an extra rocker arm that locks onto the other 2 to make them open more and for a little longer.... this creates more power at higher RPM's while still having good low-end performance. Putting one of these heads on your block basically makes it possible to flow more air/fuel in and out thus making more power.
If your going for low-end performance, I would suggest building a high compression motor and doing it N/A (Naturally Aspirated).
The thing is: Honda motors aren't designed for torque.... they are HP happy. They respond waaaaay better to HP incrases then TQ increases... Bottom end is normally a little gutless on em, but can be fixed with high compression. That will just take a little extra tuning and high octane gas to keep detonation down =)
If you like to thrash backroads, you want throttle response.... longer runners, big plenum, TB spacer, and if the budget fits, a S/C would be perfect =)
But adding the VTEC to your B7 would be an upgrade.....
But might I suggest, first get an EX/Si transmission... you will see the most difference there for the price... hands down.
If you ever need help, we're always here for ya! even though most here get sarcastic or defensive if you mad dog on something they jock... lol!
+Rep to u bro!

Cheers for the info mate,
i was blind but now i see!
"if you want throttle response.... longer runners, big plenum, TB spacer, and if the budget fits, a S/C would be perfect =)"
my big plan for this was to eventually get it turbo`d, i take it that "S/C" means supercharger? would a supercharger be better for mine?
What sort of cost and performance difference between these two are there?

ya.. supercharger
well, for mountain roads, you arent wanting lag associted with turbos...
instant power for those curvy backroads....
oah yeah.. don't forget suspenson and brakes to stop it!

turbo all the way. the turbo is gonna be more efficient being that it uses spent energy from the motor through the exhaust gasses. whereas the supercharger uses a belt that runs off a the motors plully taking hp away from it.
modern turbo have taken the lag down considerably. the key to avoiding lag is to match the turbo to the displacement of your motor.
i run a larger turbo becuase i actually like the lag, boost is killer on gas milege. i like the topend power. i like to think of my lag as a kind of traction control.
i can go on about how superior the turbo is to the supercharger. but instead of rambling on, ill paste a hondatech thread that proves my point.

youll notice that the turbo lag is minimal compared to the jrsc

No worries for now i aint got no money anyways,
regarding the turbo/sc
what should i mainly concentrate on to make the engine capable of taking either a t/sc
so when i stick one on its not going to blow my engine, i have been mainly concentrating on exhaust but my next on the list was going to be fuel intake, anyone know anything about these skunkII racing intakes or any alternatives?
visually i like how my car is looking so all my cash is heading towards engine.
