best way to improve performance over a swap whould be forced induction.

and it all depends on what results you would like. do you want a peppy daily driver with reliability? a weekend domestic teaser? a track beast?
cost all comes into play with the direction you would like to go with the car. it's hard to pinpoint an exact cost also because there are so many variables to consider when planning a build as well as various factors which can increase or decrease costs.
not trying to discourage you at all and i'm sorry if i have. this will sound old school but the best thing to do is take a few snapshots of your car from different angles, put them on your computer, then sit down at the desk with the pics loaded up and displayed (or sit near a window at a table where you have a clear view of your car) and think about what you would like both in regards to look and performance. if need be, look around the net for pics of other peoples' cars to help give you ideas. make a plan based on your ideas then do your homework for the parts and accessories you need to put that plan into action :TU:
remember: failing to plan is planning to fail

an auto can be made fast, just that tranny is holding you back a little. if you want a 10s d motor, then go turbo.

I have the same engine, i have this master plan on how i am going to make my setup but i'am probaley going to change over to a Z6 before going to the snail. With that said, my PERSONAL ideal 00 y7 w/auto tranny would involve a really small snail and boosting at idle. So basically i'd say backyard turbo, you can do it on the cheap depending on how cheap cheap is to you. Oh and welcome
GOD SAVE THE Y7's!!!!!
