okay i have a p28 ecu and its already been socketed. i slapped it onto my car with the the chip and it ran great. i took out the chip and turned it on and the car was idleing at 3500 rpm. whats the deal isnt this ecu suppose to be stock. btw, i'm running it on a 98 ex civic. d16y8. thoughts?

You have to cut the J1 jumper to return the ECU back to stock.

so you turned on the car with the ecu plugged in, with no chip?

probably not - it's like running the car without an ecu - "program"

Put the chip back in, it will run fine...

Nope. Removeing the chip and not cutting the jumper had the ecu running in limp mode.

If you want to return the ecu to stock operation.

Most people usually just have a wire connecting J1. Just cut it with a pair of sidecuts.
