Heres the problem

I have a 91 DX hatch. Usually I have my ZC in it, but right now Im running a SOHC d16a6 (91 usdm Si). I have the feeling my distributor has taken a dump.

Basicly in the last few months, I have gone through 2 cap and rotors. The reason for this is the fact that the rotor svrew is coming breaking off. The third one Im on now isnt breaking the screws, the screw is acually coming out. Now it may have just not been tightend properley, so we'll see. But here is the issue thats scaring me the most. The RPM gauge is now jumping all over the place. Its seems to do it for a while until it gets warmed up. The motor isnt acually chaging RPMS, just the needle is jumping like crazy. I have been told this is a sign that the dristubutor is done. My question, is it acually done and I need a whole new one, or is the somthing else I can check before I spend the money on a new distributor?

Thanks.

use some locktite on the rotor screw. then it wont keep coming out.

lol, yeah I know :D Acually i think the screw provided with the rotor was made too short for this last one, not sure why but whatever. Thanks for the tip though.

Anyone have any ideas why the tach would be bouncing like that? Do I need a new dizzy? If so, what exactley is wrong with this one, and can it be fixed? Or could it be somthing else?

Sounds like a short in the wire. Check the wires that lead to the tach. Is everything working besides the tach now that the screw and rotor are on?
