i havent really tested that out myself but from people that i know tell me that it doesnt work if your speedometer is broken or not working...but a good way to test it is to hook up a vtec light to the solenoid which i have done and see if it work and at what rpm it kicks in too

huh? did you try chicking your VSS sensor like changing it? checking your guage cluster? It's a D-series, you wont feel vtec anyways. IMO. I built one, all i saw was more solid revs and torque with my built d, not anything serious.

Vtec works with strictly revs and oil pressure not speed

If you are interested in hooking up a VTEC light here is a link to a decent post in the DIY Forum:

i did mine real easy and it looks good...i went to discount auto and bought a lilttle light 1/2" size its got a possitive and negative the possitive goes to a green wire with yellow stripe (might be different depending on OBD) on the ecu just take into that wire and ground the other wire... and there you go and DEVINE was right your not gonna feel it like a DOHC doesnt mean i havent spanked an ls/vtec with my factory d16 like i tell everyone dont knock it till you drive it

oh and sorry to disagree with you DEVINE but vtec works with speed and rpm but mostly speed cause after i hooked up that vtec light when i rev it up to vtec it wont kick in i have to driving in order for it to kick in and if the computer cant read how fast your goin it wont kick on

d15b's are obd1. It will work fine. If vtec didnt work, the error code will show up.

AND about your speed-o problem. Make sure its pushed in all the way, the cable that goes into your tranny. I had the same problem.

there no cable buddy...only a sensor on the tranny that you clip a harness too

I believe you have to be going at least 15 mph if I'm not mistaken.....
