ok..i know my decent knowledge of hondas, but this is buggin the shit outa me
i'm lookin to buy this 93 ex and the block reads d16z6......BUT....the valve cover doesn't say vtec nor does anywhere else on the car...i'm sure it's an ex
i haven't really got to take a good look at the car, but i was thinkin that whoever had the car before this kid (i know him personally) changed the head to a a b7, a6 or y7
thats all i can think of.....someone please help me
am i right or is there other possibillities
and i've drove the car...it's not very fast..i used to have a 91 dx and it's not much faster than it..i don't feel any type of power ban like vtec at all
MUCH MUCH THANKS!!!!

Is there a vtec solenoid?

It could be just a different valvecover.
Is there a vtec solenoid on the back of the head?
will be a sensor on the rear of the head on the passengers side, with usually a green plug in on it, if it's got it, vtec, if it doesn't you gotta find out what the hell is on there.
I think that's right, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Its located on the left side in back of the valve cover to the right of the distributor...

the vtec solenoid would be on the rear left of the head on the back side with a green plug on top and a black plug on bottom also vtec wont engage untill the car is completely warmed up, so if when you drove it the engine was cold that is why you did not feel vtec. (not that theres a whole lot to feel on d series)

Just look for the solenoid next time when you are looking under the hood.

what are the chances of that happening?
the car rolls rolls without any noise coming from the engine, but when i turn the key i just get a little click like its locking up

chances are pretty good. when the rod it thrown, the piston has the freedom to bounce around like a pinball in there. most of teh time it comes up and bangs the head a bit. no way to tell without pulling it

but thr rod was thrown down so i don't imagine their would be any head damage
i'll check it out, but i don't thi anynk there should be

replace the motor...Z6 Vtec sux, my car seems to have just as much id range power as top end. But a B series in. Only reason I did a Z6 swap is b/c it was free

You dumb ass, you're in the wrong forum to start talking about swaps.
The z6 is a great motor, and you can put the same about of money into a D as you would to swap a B and destroy the B in power. If you have endless money and a huge HP goal sure swap a B, but for street cars the D is a great motor and is much cheaper than a B
edit:maybe I shouldn't say that:edit
